Now that's a different thing altogether, even in pink that ride would rock!

My distaste for sportsters comes from an indecent years ago.

I am sitting at a light on my hardtail shovel and this guy rolls up next to me.
He is on a brand spanking new sporty that I swear still had a tag hanging on it. He is wearing shorts, Velcro sneakers and a helmet that made him look like rolling mushroom. He then gives me the "Thumbs up".

I told him to "Get the Fuck away from me".

we got lots and lots of rubs in Big D probably half the HD owners around here but most try to look like the tough guy part while many others just wear shorts and sandals because its hot outside etc...
(I think a pink polo shirt would be indecent)
guess Im some different kinda goober I feel naked without a helmet never even owned a do-rag and only thought about tatoos

This may sound stupid, as I've never put ape hangers on a bike, But do you have to change cables and front brake lines?

Yes and the new ones look cleaner than the stock ones.

The stock seat was REALLLLL cushy with the springs and padding but the plastic guard under it looked real Mickey Mouse. The LePera seat is OK but after 2 hours on it I start missing the original seat. The bike is just a bar hopper so looks wins over comfort, that’s what the bagger is for.
The stock bars were high gloss black; the new ones are matte black which I like better.

Next week’s installment

The shovel is completely dismantled and headed to the painter and powder-coater!

I've thought about this question long and hard.

For a lot of the bikers in my area, it's just about owning the coolest bike in the world, Harley, they bolt on all their shit and look cool and try to look like a real bikers. However come Monday morning, they are back in their Ford Taurases with their ties on, sitting in rush hour traffic twice!! They will try to make themselves look or sound cooler by making fun of the sporty riders, the sporty riders in turn defend themselves as best they can, but face it, a sportster is just not as cool lookin' as a big twin, even though they are faster and handle better!!

With the sport bike guys, you cant argue with the chicken strips on the rear tires, they don't lie. I can be in shorts and a tank top on my $2500.00 speed triple sitting next to some guy in a full leather racing suit, on top of a $20,000.00 Ducati, all I gotta do is look and see if, and how large his chicken strips are, There is nothing to argue about!!!!

I think a lot of big twin riders that look down on the Sportster wouldnt/couldnt get any benefit out of the faster better handling bike

I would love to have one of the new XR1200s, just wouldnt want to ride it from Dallas to San Francisco

Of course my buddy with the Street Glide said that about my Softail too.

I think that anybody that rides from, DFW to SF on any thing, has got my respect and admiration.

I just get tired of the RUB's acting like they are hardcore bikers, and then go in to work Monday as an accountant, driving in a mercedes.

But I'm no fan of the little weasel sportbikers in full leathers, racing up and down our coastal canyons, these guys go into a corner a little hot, drift out and not only kill themselves, but also kill a family on the way to the beach.

yeah theres dweebs on every make and model I reckon, summer is here and half the r.u.b.s are wearing shorts, no helmet and the obligatory HD store t-shirts with skulls and flames or skulls with flames shooting out the holes etc.

least the sport bike boys wear helmets, I know thats a whole nuther thread controversy and whatnot, check out HD forums sometime theres guys with stats to prove you'll go blind and your pecker will go limp if you wear a helmet or theres 2000 times more neck injuries from helmets etc etc

as a whole TX is about 50/50 helmet wearin on cruisers maybe 85/15 on crotch rockets I reckon

chicken strips are not fool proof. some people change their tires for road and track days, or have a seperate track bike, and ride tame on the road to avoid tickets.

knee pucks are a better indicatior imo

Usually all I can go by is the strips, we've got a lot of coastal canyon roads around here, as I come up behind somebody on a sport type bike, his strips can give me a good indication of what I'm in for if I try to pass.

If I suspect psychologically that he's not gonna lay it over and out carve me, I'll stick a front wheel on the inside to let him know My intentions.

Then I'll stick close, make sure I'm in his mirrors so he can see me, I'll pull the inside line, drive in a little harder, out brake him, kick it down two gears, lay it over, roll on the throttle and rocket out of that corner to the next one.

If he wants to do the same to me? Cool, we can dice a bit, till I decide to let him keep the lead, then I'll just keep close so he knows he can't get away easily.

If I've totally misjudged him, I'll know right away, I've got plenty of friends that can smoke me! It's alway a pleasure to see some kick ass ridin' even if it is from behind.

And if he's really nuts? I'll just let him go.

I like the satin powdercoated frame, it's a little more sinister in black as opposed to purple. Are you staying with black this time for the fenders and tank? Or are you putting graphics on her?

I gotta tell ya, the violet tank bib will not look sinister. If thats what your going for?

You do not want us Sporty riders teasing you!!!

My first chopper was white with a red candy stripe. The purple one was built with the same mindset, "You got a problem with my bike?"

Didn't realize the tank bib was a deal breaker, I'm not a fan of Chromed out, or Multi colored paint schemes, that's all, I tend to like the rat rod or rat bike look, plain black on black, minimal chrome, but thats only because I aint got no money!!

The only problem I have with your bike is that it's not sitting in my garage!!!
