I've done maybe 20 places around here and only one gave me a legitimately haunted feeling. I've lived in many places that had ghosts and so I feel I'm fairly receptive to that kind of energy, and I do believe in the supernatural. I just don't usually run into that sort of thing when I'm exploring. Except for this place.
It was a huge abandoned farm with a grand main house. I felt very much like I was being watched, more so in some rooms than others. Whatever it was, it felt like it didn't like me being there, that it was annoyed with me. As I went upstairs, I found that all the rooms were connected like a maze, instead of the standard hallways with rooms branching off that you find in most houses. There were three different staircases and I kept getting turned around not knowing where I was. It became more and more unsettling until I wound up running frantically from one room to the next trying to find a way out. When I finally found a set of stairs I quickly went down to the first floor and outside, where I felt relieved and much less frantic.
I worked my way around the back of the house, taking photos, and saw a dark shape scurry behind a shed. It was about the size and shape of a person hunched over walking quickly. I walked over there but saw nothing. I continued on exploring the rest of the farm with no further incident, until 2 hours later as I was finishing up and preparing to walk off the property. I was back by the main house again and heard - very distinctly - the sound of windchimes tinkling in the wind. I stood stock still, thinking maybe it was my keys echoing off the buildings. The sound continued even as I stood there. I had explored every inch of the property and there was nothing that could've made that sound. I left in somewhat of a hurry after that.
That night I couldn't shake the unsettling feelings I experienced in the house. I had a hard time falling asleep. When I finally did, I dreamed that I was standing in the house again, taking photos, and a young girl of maybe 8 or 10 kept running down the staircase, stopping halfway, and telling me, "Go away!" I would brush her off and continue taking photos, and she kept running back down and telling me to go away. Finally, after several repeats of this, she came all the way down the stairs, stood in front of me, and said, "No, really, you need to leave now." I woke up and couldn't fall back asleep after that.
I haven't done any research on the property yet. I'm dying to know if there is any truth to the strange things I experienced, yet at the same time, I feel like I should leave well enough alone. Maybe someday I'll work up the courage to make some phone calls and see if I can track down whoever lived there when it was abandoned.
Here's the thread with photos.
