Hey guys, my name is Dustin and I figured I'd introduce myself even though no one actually reads this shit. I'm 18 years old from NEPA, about an hour east of Scranton on the NJ border, if you know the area. I've been urbexing for a while now without even realizing that it was a legitimate hobby, of course until I stumbled onto UER. I also like to read, write, lift weights, swim, and shoot guns. And I have a thing for flashlights, which comes in really handy in often pitch-black abandonments. Well that's about it. I might post a thread with some pictures of past explorations soon.

So you lift? Interesting.

Yeah, been working out for a few years now. My dad was into powerlifting back in the day so I'm lucky enough to have a power cage and a metric ton of plates and barbells laying around my basement. In my experience strength rarely matters when exploring, but I guess having an intimidating build must be worth something when you run into the odd crackhead. That and the fact that I look like a cop when I have boots on haha. Hopefully I never come across a meth cook or they'll assume I'm LE and no one's ever gonna find my body lmao.

I am fairly normal in the sense that I have two arms, legs and hands to climb beyond that I love doing and going the places we're not suppose to =D From abandoned air fields, to hopping moving freight trains to Ventura or the desert and capturing the old rusting history that so many people hustled and worked and built decades ago that now sit to be rediscovered and loved through my camera. So grab your lamps, boots, gloves, and camelbacks msg me and I'll show you Southern California!!

Great intro post sir! Welcome to UER!

Looking forward to your posts

The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow - a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark.

Introducing Cpt. Trigger to the gang =D I'm 21, and live in the beautiful San Bernardino National Forest here in Crestline, California one of the oldest inhabited mountains of california so I'm always finding places to explore up here!!

From the Prohibition tunnels from Top Town to the clubs in Lake Arrowhead to the miles of underground tunnels that release Lake Arrowhead and the secret elevator to the facility at the bottom of the lake *Soon to be explored more.

I'll be sharing those and more shortly, but more about myself. I stay at a cabin in Blue Jay quite often, snowboard in Big Bear, hang out around Lake Arrowhead/Gregory, etc. Needless to say, I'm a big fan of the area. It's nice to hear of an explorer up there. I might contact you the next time I'm near Crestline. Until then, I'll be anxiously awaiting your first posts!

Hi! I roam the area of north montgomery county tn, i am male, 23, i'm free weekends. if you roam this area and would like a buddy to watch your back, I'm interested in seeing others' ttp's whether your brand new or an old hand. I'm new to photography but have always been deviant or slightly subversive so... I've got few sites in my sights so if you hit me up I'm not entirely empty handed. I've yet to hit a goldmine but its coming up maybe. not much drain experience, a couple of dry pipes, but I'm open to it. I've got no masks or waders. um to the website people thanks for the vast amount of experience you have shared. sorry about my picture's composition. its the only clear one i have, literally got the camera yesterday. added it so you'd know i'm not a... fake? i don't know, seemed like a good idea.

Hello, I'm Andrew. I discovered this website a while back and love it. I guess I'm still pretty new to this hobby. I've only been to a couple spots and I don't have a nice camera but I usually take pictures with my phone. I check the Mid-Atlantic section every couple days or so, but I've only ever posted once because I feel like I have nothing to contribute most of the time. I live in Norfolk, VA. If you're nearby and would want to show me a few spots, or help me learn the ropes so to speak, feel free to PM me. I know a couple cool places but it seems like I'm pretty slow because everybody else already knows about them too haha.

Hi I'm Gaelforce, joined a few months back but have been on an internship and haven't had much time. I became interested in urban exploration having heard about the Ard Ri Hotel in Waterford that looks over the city. From there it went on to Varosha and then Chernobyl and now I'm hooked and blog at www.WorldAbandoned.com Would love to hook up with other like minded folk in South East Ireland!

My name is Sarah, nickname and tag Sprica. I respond to both. I was told to introduce myself here, throw my words out into a void of darkened screen and pixels, so here goes.

I follow the rules, most of the time. I am a model citizen, as much as anyone can be. I don't cause trouble for the fun of it, or flaunt laws for sport.

But. And isn't there always a but.

I did an impromptu bit of soul searching a few years ago. Unplanned, unlooked for. A friend asked me if I could remember the first time we met, the discussions we had gotten into, the jokes, the shared experiences. They launched into a story about my life that I realized with dawning confusion I could not recall.

This suddenly brought home to me a simple fact. I don't have the best memory. If things don't make a great impression on me they tend to slip away. And this started to bother me, the abrupt idea that my life was drifting away like so much blank paper. So I thought back. I sought out the times that I DID remember, the experiences I could recall as clearly as if I was living them all over again. And I realized that those were the important moments, the ones I had kept ahold of, the ones that I most valued.

And they were all moments I had spent being truly and vibrantly alive. Times spent with loved ones, with friends and strangers and random people I had met at bus stops and grocery stores. When I sorted through it all I finally recognized the common thread that bound these bright points, these memories.

They were all my adventures. The excitement I felt putting myself out there and experiencing new things, the joy of connecting with someone or someplace else and learning their story. That was the cement that kept these precious moments stuck firmly in my head.

So that's why I love to explore. Not because I feel the need to rebel against some vague authority (though I'm not saying that isn't fun). Not because I want to make anyone's life harder, or put the fear of god into a roosting flock of pigeons or a nesting raccoon. (Which I admit can at times also be amusing.)

It's because I believe that when I'm older and arguably wiser, settled in a respectable profession, THIS is what I'll look back on. These bright, and at times painfully vibrant moments of adrenaline and discovery. And hopefully the friends I've made along the way.

I want to do all that while I've still got the time. They'll hand me a degree soon and then I'll be locked away in maturity forever. Imagine the tragedy.

So that's why I signed up for this site, that's why I'm here waxing poetic about memories and aspirations. Because I want to live while I've got the opportunity. And I'll be as polite about it as possible, as accommodating of the rules as I can be. But I'm still going to go right ahead and snatch whatever experiences I can. Because, after all, that's what living should be about.

Ohey! I'm Justin, and I'm very glad I found this website.

I'm from the East Bay of California, and I'm sort of a noob to urbexing. I typically go exploring with a duo of buds, and I always bring my camera. At some point I'll probably post some photos I've taken on past explorations. So far, we've visited a couple of the well-known locations in the area, but we like to step it up and try something new each time.

I've always been a fan of going on adventures, whether it be car rides or hikes or backpacking. I can't remember exactly what led me to learn about urbexing, but once I heard about it, I had to try it.

So far we're had an exhilarating time on each of our trips, and I'm hoping I can use this website to learn more about the activity and possible future locations to visit.

Not in the strictest sense, but I have found more than a few structures to explore that way. Urban exploration isn't all I do with my life, afterall, though I see where you night have gotten confused. When I explore I value the places I photograph, but also the people I get to hang out with and meet along the way. More than a few confused taggers and some initially frightening squatters have actually turned out to have great stories.

So your sarcasm is amusing, but a little off base. If you like I can link some of the honest-to-goodness urban exploration albums I've shot. I was planning to make a better post for them when I actually had access to my computer instead of my smartphone. If you're a photographer I'd love some tips, particularly on the contrast of dark indoor scenes framed around bright Windows. I never seem to get those shots quite right.

Lovely to meet you. ;)

Hah, I know how that is. I am an amateur photographer with a spectacular camera. It was a gift and I'm trying to do it justice. It does make my photos turn out a whole lot better than they really should though.

And mostly women is strange huh? I guess I didn't realize there was a gender gap in urbexing. Maybe because I always go exploring with my friends, half of whom are female. Most times it works out well, since we can usually wiggle through Windows the guys just wouldn't fit through.

I'll link you to the pictures once I get them uploaded. There's a lot to cull out from my last exploration, but I think I got some decent ones.

And I wasn't saying I urbexed legally, I was explaining why it was worth it not to. A bit too flowery for an intro post huh? I guess I was just getting bored of "Hello my name is ----- and I'm from ----" that could be from all the orientation I'm going through before classes this year though. Sorry if it was confusing.

I've posted a bit so far, but realize that I never really formally introduced myself. SO:

Hi everyone,
I live in Metrowest MA though I've lived in about half the places in the Northeast. I've been exploring off and on for quite a while- usually more of a "oh, cool, lets see what THAT is" mindset than actively looking for places to find. Both my wife and I really love to explore, and we are using this as an opportunity to grab a few photos. Photography (of course) is another thing we're really into. At the moment we have a pair of nice-ish point and shoot cameras, getting the basics down. The things that I'm excited about with this board are going to be getting tips on photos, looking at other people's trips, and perhaps posting a few of our own explores.

Nice to meet everyone.

<snip>

I want to do all that while I've still got the time. They'll hand me a degree soon and then I'll be locked away in maturity forever. Imagine the tragedy.

<snip>

Only if you let it! I went through mid-life pretty low key, but I started to hear the clock ticking. I learned to ride a motorcycle and became a riding instructor. I combined my very rusty climbing skills with a life-long interest of old mines and started mine exploring. I've built my own little camping trailer and taught outdoor cooking. I've also met some AMAZING people along the way. (Some are on this forum.) It's never too late to start living.

There's a time in life for maturity and some restraint. But don't let the fire go out. Throw a few logs on the fire from time to time to keep it burning. Life can be a long struggle or a great adventure. Much of it is our choice.

Welcome Sarah,

Thanks AbbyN (Ah, Young Frankenstein), I'm rather hoping I can steer mine towards adventure. It certainly seems that you have! Mine exploration is something I've only really heard about on the periphery, but I'd love to hear some of your stories. I'll have to go diving through your posts.

I've posted up some pictures and stories in UER. Fortunately most folks here are OK with Rural Exploration as well. If you would like to see photos, you can check out my website at: Abbie's Mine Photos

It needs some updating with recent pictures, but there are a lot of pictures there. If you get seriously interested in mine exploring, Therrin or I can point you in the right direction.
