Shiver Me Timbers

Seeing this ship all the time on QEW Niagara, it always peaked my interest. So on a typical winter warning day. I checked it out. Unfortunately a fire gutted most of the woodwork of this once floating restaurant in 03'. So the remains are skeletal.

Great stuff!
Coincidentally I just drove by this today, saw a guy dirt-biking across the ice on the other side of the QEW, and was thinking about parking and making my way over the ice out to the ship. Now I don't have to... Exhaustive photo set. Haven't seen an interior on this ship in a good many years. Favs are #14 and, of course, #26. That shot looks great!

I don't think that thing is ever gonna get hauled outta there. I remember sneaking on board before it burnt. (we used to canoe a lot in the harbour on the other side)

It's going down! I'm yellin' timberrrrr!
Ok I'll stop.

Neat explore! Disappointed at the lack of beavers but YEAH! You're getting out there and staying busy in the winter

The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us?

Very cool! Not much water-based exploring to do here in Oklahoma.

Was this a commercial restaurant? Any history about it?

Thanks G.S. The tilt always gets me off balance when standing up from the lower shots. I like those trippy stairs too Thanks.

I doubt it will get hauled out of there no one wants to pay. Must've been a beauty site when it still had an interior.

Thanks B&C. ahahaha. no guardian angel or beavers on this one ( dead skeletal fish don't count ). Trying to keep busy in winter. Summer I"m in the woods digging for buried treasures.. lol. Joking.

Thanks RRF. Tt was probably my first thought to explore an abandonment when I was a kid even before I knew what UE/RE was. So had to get it out of the way. Was just a pain waiting for a comfortable ice condition.

Copied and paste from here.
http://www.niagara...ande-hermine-.html

"La Grande Hermine" (The Big Weasel) is one of the most recognizable landmarks along the Niagara stretch of the Queen Elizabeth Way. The 140 foot ship was created as a replica of the largest of 3 ships French Explorer Jacques Cartier sailed up the St. Lawrence River. It was originally built in Quebec in 1914 and began its life as a ferry on the St. Lawrence and later became a cargo ship, a floating restaurant, and in 1991 converted to a replica ship. At one time the vessel was turned into a haunted pirate ship at Halloween to raise money for a hot lunch program for students. The derelict ship's final resting place is the Jordan Harbour just off the western shore of Lake Ontario, between the cities of Hamilton and St. Catharines. This abandoned shipwreck came to the Jordan Harbour in 1997, and was the victim of an arson fire in January of 2003, causing this piece of history to go up in smoke. What's left of the ship remains rusting, damaged and run down, but is still an interesting site to see. It was towed to the Jordan Harbour to await further relocation to a spot near Niagara Falls in hopes of turning it into a gambling venue, but the owner passed away before permission was received. This shipwreck has since been a distinctive landmark and favourite roadside attraction to many, and also referred to as 'the pirate ship' in Niagara. This little understood landmark tilts strongly to one side as it half sits and half floats, only a few metres off the shoreline in the small artificial cove of the Jordan Harbour.

Jordan Harbour is on the other side of the highway. Where the boat rests is an artificial harbour for the old Beacon Motor Inn/marina. (dunno what it's called now) When I was on that thing pre-fire, it was kinda neat, but pretty much stripped down. Still had some weird/creepy murals and effects painted inside from when it was a haunted pirate ship. Nothing much else to note, but it woulda been cool for pix. (I never had a camera on me back then - I was too stoned to think about it haha)

Therefore, don't do it. Because NO ONE wants to be a member of the Cyryn Fyrcyd Fan Club.

Unfortunately the only time I ever got on this thing was a few months after the fire, but it seemed more interesting even back then. I think a lot of parts have collapsed or otherwise been altered since then.

Wouldn't surprise me since the fire was bout 10 years ago. I"m sure most of the remaining wood crumbled after being charred.

Im sure the studded tires help a lot. I remember how painful and awkward it was just falling with a bicycle when I was younger riding in winter ( without studded tires ). I hate to imagine having a motorbike fall on my leg. I seen some of the ice dirt bike races on Speed channel and the crashes looks horrible ( minus when body goes somersaulting over everything, sad but funny )
