Hello all! My name is August and I live in the Western New York area I just joined here last week. I have been interested in abandoned places for as long as I can remember, but only started exploring myself about a year ago.

My first exploration was at a TB hospital that is fairly well know in the area. After that I was hooked and have been to several other locations throughout the state. I am always looking for new places in and around the New York area. Would love to meet some local people that are as passionate about exploring as I am!
Here are a few pictures from some of my adventures. I will admit I am not much of a photographer.

Hi everyone!

I'm John, and I've just recently joined the site! I've lived around the East Coast my whole life, and have been living in North Carolina again for the last year and a half or so. I've done a little exploring with some friends over the years, but unfortunately don't have any pictures up so far. I do have a couple trips planned for the next couple of weeks around NC, though, and will get some to share.

I look forward to meeting some of you and seeing some cool places!

Thanks!

Hey! I live in Ventura county, not much to find over here, but I'm really happy that I found this site which shows me locations to which I have never thought about going! My name is...MYSTERY-IS-IN-THE-AIR and I love the idea of Urban Exploration...anyways, I have a few questions. How should I find new places to explore? Should I just go to the locations provided to basic members as a start? Also, I plan on inviting other explorers to come with me. Does anyone have any advice for me as to how I know who will be safe and who will not be? Thanks for your consideration!

Search around on Google/Bing maps and follow rivers, railways and freeways. Flickr is good to search around on for photos of places near you. Try "Abandoned ______ (name of city or town)" or "Urbex ______"

Usually people who've established themselves on here and have "full membership" are pretty trustworthy. You could always go back and look through people's past posts to see if they seem cool. PM people in your area and get to know them a bit before inviting them out perhaps.

Hi there. I'm a girl (33) from Luxembourg, Europe. I absolutely love industrial sites and former open public locations (hospitals, theatres...). Here in Luxembourg we have luckily a big derelict industrial heritage in the southern part of the country. The ligne Maginot is also a short drive away, which is always worth a Sunday afternoon stroll I feel safe in bunkers, but I get nervous in sewers and other small tunnels. Private locations often make melancholic or downright sad, especially when whey have been carelessly scrabbled around.

Making photos of the location was for a long time no option for me. After having read Homo Faber in my teens I swore to myself to not end up being a person who lives just on old pictures. That's why I looked for sensing the location and trying to remember it trough triggers like a smell or a particular shade of colour. Something changed after turning 30. Guess one gets old and inevitably develops a penchant for photos, to remember... so I take some but not a ton, and even that I have a fish eye (generous present for my birthday - TA!), i prefer to focus on details to recreate the meandering around and paying attention to details. Oh yeah, and I'm not good yet with progressing the images...

Hey, I've been a member of the site and a fan of all things abandoned for a long time and after lurking long enough I've decided to take the plunge and begin to contribute back to this great site and community. I recently moved from San Antonio to Galveston and am hoping with the city's history I'll be able to document and post more about it all.

Would definitely be interested in meeting up in and around the area to check out more stuff as I've typically always had to go out alone for my narrow urbex's. Below are two buildings I'll be posting to US South soon, the old Fallstaff Brewery and the Medical Arts Building.

Hey! I've been exploring abandoned places since I was 10, but I've only recently found the community of urban explorers. I love adventure, and photography is the career I hope to go into, so this is pretty much my perfect pastime. I live in Parker, Colorado, and only know of a couple good abandoned places nearby (one of which has recently burned down), but I hope joining this community will help connect me with more cool spots and cool people.

Hello. Just call me Sharkster. I live in the South Texas area. Right now I'm almost a mile outside of a small town, so I don't have many opportunities to explore. But when I do get out I take lots of pictures that I would love to share when I have the ability.

I'd like to do meet-ups and such if there's anybody in my area. I'm still checking out what's around here on foot and on Google Maps, but where I can go is limited to how many miles I can walk unless I get a ride.

I think that's about it for my intro. I can't wait to contribute what I can to the forums and the DB!

Thanks for the advice! I actually found some locations because of you. I got results from looking up "urbex ventura". It's kind of hard to find people in my area, but I'll keep trying. Thanks again!

Hello everyone,

I'm new to UE in general as well as UER itself. I recently explored a simple, comparatively uninteresting storm drain in Salt Lake City and was hooked.
I'll go by FE on the forums.

Looking to meet up with some other explorers in the SLC area; PM me if you're willing to take a rookie along on your next run.

Hello everyone - I'm Jake, and I reside in the Durham, NC area.
I am an amateur photographer and have always been interested in exploring.
I have some older pictures of some things I've wriggled into, and would really like to explore some of the old abandoned farm houses and barns I see scattered around the country side in my area.

Hello, I'm new to UER and somewhat newer to UE. I got into exploring after going to a large abandoned apartment complex over a year ago, and became hooked since then. Also, if anyone in either the Detroit or Chicago area is interested feel free to PM me. I'm looking to connect and meet more people into UE.

Hey fellow adventurers!

I'm Chris, and I've been casually exploring "forbidden places" for years. I've recently moved from Vancouver, BC to Montreal, QC, and am astounded by all the places to check out. Old buildings are hard to come by in Vancouver.. I've recently gotten into geocaching and worry that I'll wind up homeless soon because all I do lately is explore, which doesn't pay the bills but certainly does keep me feeling young (I'm 32).

I'm going to check some of the local forums and read up on this whole "being a newb" thing. Looking forward to maybe meeting some of you, donning the headlamps and snapping some pics!

-Chris

Hi,
I live in a small town in germany and recently been on some rooftops of abandoned buildings around my town. After that I searched for "Rooftopping tutorial" or something like that on google. That's how I found this Forum. I am maybe more interested in climbing on buildings but I think this is the right place to look for tips and guides even if there isn't anybody from my region on this forum. Looking forward to learning new things and sharing experiences/photos with you guys (and girls).

More to come.

Good Morning! I have been avid urbex/rurex junkie since I found my first nearly intact "time capsule" house in rural Northern Michigan when I was 12. My dad and I peeked in windows and saw that while clearly abandoned for some time, almost everything from the former inhabitants was still there. My 12-year old mind thought "jackpot"! I'm taking everything home! Altho not an urbexer, my dad luckily said that it wouldn't be fair to take anything. What I guy and what a foundation for respectful exploring!

Anyway, I'm from the northern metro Detroit suburbs. I've been viewing this site for some time and finally decided to join. I look forward to sharing some of my finds.

BTW, Detroit, while a wonderful, friendly place is not a great, safe place for exploring abandoned homes. My neighbor is a restorer/house flipper down in the "highly distressed" parts and they routinely find dead bodies, druggies, etc and often have to fend off would- be muggers. Needless to say he carries a sidearm. I don't go anywhere where a "concealed weapons permit is highly recommended"

Finally, after the 3 day wait i can finally post lol. I am Jesse. You can call me Sholuck. I have been interested in UE for a very long time and stumbled across this forum while on Reddit. Now this may come as a shock, but i work as a security guard in central florida. WAIT! Dont go running for the door or start giving me a hard time. I am only security when i am getting paid. And even if i did find one of you guys/gals on one of the properties, i would probably just ask you to leave, or i may show you around. Please dont let this impede on any friendships that may come about from this forum. I look forward to exploring with some of you one day.
