South Manitou Island trip

Over the weekend I took a trip up to South Manitou Island in Lake Michigan. I had originally intended to go to North Manitou, but I had to shorten my trip by a day, and the ferry operator wouldn't let me come back a day early, so I took a day trip to South. I also spent the previous night at Leelanau State Park, at the tip of the pinkie in Michigan.

The Grand Traverse Lighthouse at Leelanau:

The wreck of the Francisco Morazon, which ran aground in 1960:

More trail. Most of the trails were pretty well-groomed:

Relaxing after seven miles of hiking on a humid day:

Lived 20 minutes away from lake Michigan for the past 10 years and I had no idea there were any islands in it. :p Nice set! Northern Michigan is a beautiful place!

It is! I went through Huron-Manistee Nat'l Forest on the way back and was blown away. Especially when I saw the "Bear Crossing" sign. Not being from bear country, I found that really funny.

Can't call myself an enthusiast, but I like 'em too.
