Anyone know how to recover lost files?

I went on an out of town explore recently and lost about half of my pictures due to some mess up while uploading. Using recover programs I have been able to find the lost pictures on my SD card, but all of these programs want me to buy them before they let me all the way recover my files. I'm really hoping someone can help me out here with what to do. I've got a mac and I'm not intensely tech savvy.

Lexar has a free recovery app that comes with its SD cards.
DO NOT let thee paid apps run "to check if files are recoverable"!!!
Some will corrupt the card so other recovery apps will not work.
If you already started running one and it already organized files, you better buy it.

I have a couple of programs that I've tried over the years, and a few licenses.

Turns out the best I've used is a freeware program called PhotoRec, which runs in a command window with admin privileges. It's a pain in the ass to setup the recovery if your not familiar with the command window, but it's recovered every file for me 100% of the time with no issues.

I use a program called icarepro and it's very thorough. I obtained a license through "questionable" methods.

It took about 6 days for me to recover a 1tb drive.

Recuva is a good, free data recovery program. I suggest using the portable version so you don't have to install anything.
Also, anything you do that writes data to the SD card is potentially overwriting your deleted data, making it unrecoverable. So don't use the SD card at all before attempting recovery.
