| | | A very interesting set of photos indeed. I appreciate the historical aspect. I did my own visit of the remnants of Sun Valley Gardens in 2006. I'm not nearly as talented of a photographer but my photos can be found here: http://www.bareoak...&Itemid=61&lang=en It would be nice to provide references for the source material behind the history. From what I gather, some of it came from my own page. The rest may be from Wikipedia: https://en.wikiped...Sun_Valley_Gardens and some of it appears to be quoted from "Au Naturel: The History of Nudism in Canada" by James Woycke, PhD. You can read the section about Sun Valley Gardens on Google Books: https://books.goog...=onepage&q&f=false (starting at the bottom of page 117) We took a picture at the pool at roughly the same angle as an old photo and then combined the old and new. 1. 1.

| | | One story I forgot to share: As we were leaving, we saw a pipe sticking out of the ditch next to the road where we were parked. I pulled on it and out came the old intercom. Given that it had obviously been thrown aside and was on public property, I decided there was no reason not to take it. I made it into a bit of a history display in the office at Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park. After all, we partially owe our existence to Sun Valley Gardens. The write up on the wall talks about the history of SVG and about how secretive people had to be back then -- hence the gate and intercom. In fact SVG was unusual in having a sign at the street in the 1950's and 1960's. Most clubs at that time were completely invisible from the road for fear of being raided by the police. It had happened once in Quebec in 1951. From page 142-143 of Au Naturel: The History of Nudism in Canada by James Woycke, PhD: On Sunday, 29 July 1951, some club members were out at camp clearing the central field when they heard rustling in the bushes. As the women dashed into the tents to dress, Couture challenged the interlopers to reveal themselves, and “nine stalwart Provincial Police arose from the bushes, and bravely advanced upon the lone man who remained to face them.” One of the police photographers entered the tent “merrily snapping many pictures,” and when Couture knocked the camera away other policemen grabbed him and beat him “in the best Gestapo style.” They charged Couture with “promenading in the nude on his property in public view,” and his wife Blanche and another couple, the Wilsons, with “being found on property other than their own, in a state of nudity and in public view.” The police had an unusual definition of “public view”: “we had to crawl for more than 100 yards through the bush to get close to them without being seen.” Detective- Lieutenant Trottier of the QPP Morality Squad claimed that his force had been investigating complaints of nudity for more than a year, but had lacked proof until now. He smugly added, “for a change, we didn’t have to search them for evidence."
