Researching My First Exploration

Hello, everyone! I've been trying to find the right place to do my first exploration. There's an abandoned stone house about 10 minutes away from me. I have a few screenshots from Google Maps and would love any tips, or if this looks worth it. These are dated from 2014, but my mother has driven past there recently and said it looks a lot more overgrown now with greens.

Good find, looks like an easy, quick, and satisfying opportunity, and 10 minutes away? I'd be heading there right now. Please get some shots of the old cars if they're still there.

Looks like a great location to cut your teeth on. Some quick tips for you, though feel free to ignore me if you already know these.

Be aware of neighbors. I can't tell from the screenshots if there are nearby houses, but depending on the traffic that road sees you should use the trees and bushes as cover. Now, don't make yourself obvious about it- walk like you belong there, but subtly place yourself out of sight while doing so.

Secondly, watch the structural integrity of the building. Now, with stone walls and a tin roof, I highly doubt structural collapse is an issue. However, there may be a basement or root cellar concealed in the floor or grass around the house. Watch your footing at all times.

Also keep an eye out for animals. Birds, snakes, raccoons, and bees all may have taken up residence inside. Don't corner any animals, and don't stick any body parts where you can't see them. Keep your distance if you see them and everything should be fine.

Lastly, there won't be much subject material judging by the size, and that's okay. Quality over quantity is king. I myself find that up close shots and panoramic views tend to work well with small locations, but do what you think works best.

In all honesty, that looks like a low risk, low traffic location- perfect for a new explorer like yourself. The information above covers scenarios that are possible, though improbable with a little bit of common sense. Keep a calm demeanor and everything will work out in your favor. Best of luck, and I look forward to seeing your pictures.

That's quite an old house, love it. The mountain looks like you're in my neck of the woods too.

To continue with the walking like you belong there, for me its all about confidence. Just like Aran said, walk like you belong there and dont constantly be checking over your shoulder. You'd be surprised how much less attention is drawn to you just by the way you walk and your demeanor. I've personally been able to walk right up to locations and out of sight to find my POE just by walking confidently. I'm sure others would agree with that too. Most important though is to just be safe and have fun. Post some pictures after the trip. Looks like a pretty cool place for a first trip.
