Here's my take.
There are some amazing photographers here that share a dump of their work with a couple of comments. Love the photos, but it generally leaves me wanting more. I also want to read a story about the explore. So not just, "Here's me climbing a ladder" or "That's me on the roof." A story about where you went, what you saw, how it made you feel, and the photos that help us feel like we were actually there with you.
The term photo-journalism would be an overstatement, but photo-story-telling would be about right.
Lastly, the choice doesn't have to be between photo dumps and lengthy stories. A story that tells of the explore along with the corresponding photos won't get boring. Too much narrative or just a dump of photos generally doesn't garner the same reaction as a well written post with pictures.
