Off-key question about the database

is this restricted to full members for posts/actions past a certain date? many, many locations in my area have recent activity from the late 2000s, and not much newer... seems unnatural, and while i can see that it's quite reasonable, i was curious on whether this is the case

The vast majority of the locations on the non-FM database have been demolished. Is that why there are no recent posts?

The location data base has two levels of view-ability full member and public.

You must be a full member to add to or edit the over 9000 locations in the data base.

Once a location is labeled as demolished, it is automatically made public.

There are quite a few though that are not demolished where the entry was made public by the creator, just maybe not in your area.

You probably won't see many of the newer database entries because buildings that are still abandoned or in an explorable condition are typically made private. Entries that are public are viewable to anyone with an internet connection, not just basic members. That's why many people choose to make new entries full member-only. It's not foolproof but it does decrease the chance of people with nefarious intentions from discovering the location.

could also be a shift of interests to more private areas - but, even in standing/public places, there are no posts or updates beyond 2009 (this stood out - all were 2004-2009)

The DB is helpful, but I find in its current state it's no substitute for checking locations out yourself. When I got FM a couple months back, the first thing I noticed was that it listed a site that I knew was demolished two years ago, so if you're looking at something in the DB, at least check it out on Google Streetview first to make sure the info is somewhat up to date.

The DB is fun to look at, but I never use it to find locations to explore...
If it's demoed or reused, no harm done.

If you were ever to need the LDB to look up Korean locations, you'd find it's been meticulously kept for at least a decade and all the information is up to date to the best of my knowledge.

I wonder who we have to thank for that... ;) ;)

I still add to the DB once something has been either demolished or renovated so folks know not to waste their time. Plus it's sort of like a epitaph for the building.

honestly if you need locations spend some time on google earth looking cities near you. You will be surprised what you find.
