Today I found a big abandoned building next to a residential area. which precautions should We take to enter into that building? We are a little scare to found somebody inside.

Awe man, wish I could come with you, looks fun.

But yeah, don't go alone. You're in danger of much more than running into a crackhead. Bring a rope, respirator, flashlight, etc. You'll want to be really geared up, also bring food and water. Take extra precaution of falling and weak flooring.

I also recommend exploring during day, less likely to have people in it then, and it'll be a lot easier for somebody to see your flashlight at night.

If you really want to be safe, do research on the building. Learn of any hazards that might be related to the abandonment of the building, or what the building was used for.

Good luck, bring back some rad pics for us.

Let me in.

Thank you guys!

I did some research and I found that it was a Warehouse of an Art moving company and closed around 2005, so I think that hazardous contaminant will not be a problem.

When I was there I found many POE, and I look trough at one of them and I see that the floor is 6 feet under the street level and its flooded (with ice at this time). that could be very dangerous.

Someone wants to go?, it's in Jersey City

Honestly, it looks pretty straightforward of a place. Really just use common sense, and bring a buddy, don't go alone.

Looks like a rewarding explore. You should just go for it!

Pepper spray and have it handy. I wouldn't take the wife unless she's bigger than you! Just because it was abandoned in 2005 doesn't mean that it doesn't contain anything hazardous - get a respirator just to be safe. Even if you don't need it you've got it in case you do.

Watch you footing. I still get caught up looking at stuff and not where I'm walking! Test the floor before you step. If that roof is damaged, I can guarantee the floors are shot too. This is especially true with stairs.

Jump in... I go alone all the time.
No big deal.
Predawn it if being spotted is a concern.
Avoid sites were you -know- squatters are living.

I explore alone more often than with other people. Just easier.

I just don't like NJ. After walking into a gang beating inside of the old jail in Newark I just don't like any city in that state.

I've explored one or two large scale industrial locations on my own before.

First off, watch your step. That is a multilevel building that has been abandoned for over a decade. Wood rots, metal rusts, concrete crumbles. That's not the hazardous part. The hazardous part is that it can be difficult to distinguish dangerous structural conditions when exploring. Be careful, and watch out for hellholes.

Second off, carry a phone, a dust mask or respirator, and a good flashlight with fresh batteries. The phone is in case you become trapped or injured. The dust mask or respirator is to protect against mold spores, concrete dust, loose fiberglass, exposed insulation, etc. Dust masks won't protect against asbestos, but asbestos isn't your main concern anyway. The flashlight is because abandonments get very dark, even in the middle of the day. Tying back into my first paragraph, it's easier to see dangerous things if you have light. Just don't shine it at windows- that attracts attention.

Watch your back, and consider bringing pepper spray if it makes you feel safer. I've never needed it before, but that doesn't mean you won't. Also, be quiet. You'd be surprised how loud people normally are.

If you and your wife are going together, you should each have one of all the above listed items. Everyone in a group should be prepared to explore solo if necessary- it helps to be prepared on the off chance anything goes wrong.

Lastly, have fun. That looks like it will be a pretty good location.

In a place like that, I would recommend a particle mask, and maybe having a buddy tag along. Always let AT LEAST one person know where you're going if going alone. Also, I tell them i'll call at a certain time, if not, they know where to find me. Totally saved my ass once lol. Best luck!

Over there in that pigpen, I found a couple of Shoshoni arrowheads.
