Meet and greet requirement for FM?

Hello,
I'm currently attempting to check all the boxes for full membership. However, I'm a bit iffy on the requirement about going exploring with another member of the site. There are other members in my area, but in general I'm a bit on the fence about revealing my identity/meeting up with someone I met on the internet. I'm a rather private person and usually only go exploring with immediate family or close friends.
Are there any other ways I can be verified by moderators?

Good question.

You are not required to meet with anyone to obtain FM its just one way to establish trust, who you say you are etc. but it can help. If that's not in your comfort zone please do not feel obligated to do that.

The wording in the FAQ is somewhat misleading although in the preceding comment it says: "These are often listed as the requirements for full membership"

Checking off a lot of boxes does not ensure you will be granted FM status or even trusted by other members of this online community. Once you have applied for Full Membership UER members will be asked to provide references about you. I think that's kinda cool really. You can toggle this reference request (see page header) on and off if you want to comment on other applicants.

Exploring with a full member should only be considered a shortcut, not a prereq. Though a big shortcut.

Honestly someone who is only here to tick off all the boxes would worry me. I mean it is an asocial pursuit and I get your apprehension but we have to be wary of the bare minimum infiltration attempts.

That's on me, I probably should've worded it better. I can assure you, I'm here to be part of the community.

It's possible to get a full membership without doing the meet n greet, but it's more difficult. I never met up with anyone until after I received a full membership due to various circumstances, and I still got it.

My first application (submitted after 3 months) was denies, and the lack of a meet n greet was specifically mentioned as one of the reasons. My second application (2 years) was accepted, though I probably could have done it in as few as 9 months or so.

The meet n greet requirement is primarily so that other explorers can vouch for you. By seeing how you act when you explore, any full members you explore with can either endorse or denounce you during the application process. This is a much faster and easier way than watching as you post explorations and participate in community over time.

Basically, it's not impossible or even uncommon to be granted full membership without the meet n greet- just expect it to take a while longer. And hey; good things are worth waiting for, eh?

I never requested FM, never went to a meet up.
It took me less then 2 months.
Post quality posts, good exploration pics and avoid making the all too common FNG fuck ups.
Instead of asking, read the thousands of threads and tutorials on UER.
Whining and begging will quickly go south to hell here...

You will be noticed if you interact on this site often and in a positive way.
Likewise if you do so in a negative way, especially with the mods and FMs.
If no one put you up for FM after a couple of months, there are probably good reasons for it.
One thing I personally loathe seeing is a BM bum rushing for their FM while others patiently wait and contribute good material to the site. There are good members who have been here for literally years that I have helped jump in. I actively look for those.

PMs many times are a more effective way to help establish a relationship and understanding with other members here.
How you conduct yourself will determine the ease or difficulty you experience here to a large degree...
This site is as easy as pie if you are genuinely interested in it and the people on it.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Listen to BlackHawk - he's a straight shooter and he's shooting you straight here.

I'm new too and the way I look at it, its ok if I never get FM status. I'm here to learn from the FMs and if they decide they wanna take me in the inner sanctum one day - that's awesome, but there is much to be learned just here on the forum's.

Imma brand new newbie and I read a LOT of the threads - there's a treasure trove of info there.

All that said - I AM a newbie - so ignore everything I said ( ) and just do what people like OG BlackHawk says.

Good luck kip - I hope you find some cool people to explore with and learn from!

I made FM after 3 months, a ton of posts and an explore with one of the Mods. Honestly FM is really no big deal. There's no "inner sanctum" among FM's (the mods on the other hand....hmmmm) so other than getting a globe under your name and the ability to see a few more posts it's not much of a change.

On the other hand, there ARE places that are only viewable to FM's because of the sensitivity of the location and it's for that reason that these posts are only available to FM's. I personally usually abstain from voting on new members. The only exception to this is if I personally know them, have followed their work over a period of time, or they piss me off in posts.

My advice to you specifically is to come out of that shell and get someone to vouch for you, post more explores and show that you not only understand the site and it's rules/norms but also have some exploring experience under your belt.

This is no different than anything else in life. While I understand and respect people's reluctance to meet with strangers, alone, in a dark abandoned building, there are ways around that if youre uncertain about it. UER policies would never require that you do something dangerous or even slightly risky to gain FM.

You should see some of the "initiation" processes Ive gone through to join other "organizations".

Listen to the current FMs they are in and of themselves resources.

Tell me about it! The thing with the goat and the "Thank you sir may I have another" ritual I had to go through with UER still gives me nightmares!

I was here for a couple of years before I requested full membership. I never met with anyone else, I just tried as best as I could to be (and continue to be) a positive presence here. I think that is one of the biggest things if you want to obtain FM. I also wrote a nice note when I was applying and appealing to the Mods to grant my FM. Honestly I was surprised a bit that I was accepted, as I wasn't sure that I had "ticked the boxes" so to speak. It has been a honor and privilege to be a FM here, and it always has the understanding that at any point it can be taken away. So I do my best to like I said, be a positive presence. Its kinda like being "handed the keys" so to speak.

So in short, just do your best to contribute, weather its just complimenting someone on their explore, or putting up some info about a spot your found. Or if you can meet up with someone too, obviously that helps. I have tried to branch out more in the last few months with some members, and haven't had a bad experience yet. If you are not sure, just continue to contribute, make a FM request, worst they can say is no, but like it says in the FAQ that isn't cause to stop trying for it. Hope this helps.

I'll admit, the togas was pretty classy.

But don't you think the five hundred gallon barrel of melted cheese was a tad bit much?
