| | | Outside From In by Ground State Photos, on Flickr After driving by the same QEW abandonments a thousand times for several years, I finally decided to make a dedicated trip to see what the area had to offer and to hopefully strike a few nonchalant places off my list. First, a few strike-outs that did not permit entry this time around. The first one was a real surprise with the giant sheets of metal blocking all the ground-floor entrances. I thought for sure I was getting into this place, but Burlington sure doesn't mess around! A few other cliche QEW service road locations should be easy to recognize for anyone who has been through the area. 1. Metalwork Mansion by Ground State Photos, on Flickr 2. Dead in Deerfield by Ground State Photos, on Flickr Maintenance workers in Deerfield sure are leery about photographers stopping and pulling in for a closer look at the old wreck in #4. I heard several electric carts slowing down for a closer look as they passed by me on the way to the maintenance garage. 5. Jaguar in Construction Zone by Ground State Photos, on Flickr 6. Swallows Surveying by Ground State Photos, on Flickr I don't think Jaguar is going to be around much longer, as it is sitting in the middle of a massive Strabag construction zone. Just being on the property got me a handful of dirty looks from heavy machinery operators developing the land behind it. I didn't know what to make of these coin-op cages found in the rear. Can anybody fill me in on what they were for? Batting cages? 7. Coin-Op Cages by Ground State Photos, on Flickr Next up came a new sports park abandonment that I don't think has been vacant for a full year yet. I noticed it last autumn and decided to try my luck... but perhaps too early. 8. Recently Left by Ground State Photos, on Flickr 9. Gone Golf by Ground State Photos, on Flickr 10. A Bit Too New by Ground State Photos, on Flickr I'm really interested in this next location, found buried in the middle of Bronte Provincial Park. Daily access to the park is unfortunately $17, but I talked the gate attendant into letting me in for free if I promised to just take a look around and leave within 15 minutes. I B-lined right out to this place to quickly check it for access, took a few shitty high-ISO shots, and made my way back out. I had hoped to return sometime for a better look, but the place is really dangerous inside and I'd rather settle on seeing some other photographers' shots, if you have any you could add to this thread. Also, what's the history on this place? I'm very surprised they'd leave it standing with very questionable attention to securing it. I got the distinct feeling the two POEs that I used have been available for quite some time. 14. Buried in Bronte by Ground State Photos, on Flickr 15. Corner Crib in Decay by Ground State Photos, on Flickr I didn't think this next place was going to be much of anything, especially given the bareness of the exterior. But inside was one of the worst cases of youth destruction I've been to since the 2-storey white house beside the school board in Welland! 18. House of 1000 Taggings V by Ground State Photos, on Flickr Finally, I most enjoyed this next place that Freaktography was kind enough to share with me last year. It took me a long while to get here, but I don't think it detracted from the experience. The house was a joy to slowly wander through and photograph. 25. Not For Lack of Trying by Ground State Photos, on Flickr All in all, it was a pretty good inner-city getaway on an unplanned weekday. Although I do like obscure rurex a lot better, you know what the best part of this was, in the middle of July, making the whole day totally worth it???.....

| | | Holy hell, GS... I stumbled across the yellow house and the neighboring amusement park-esque thing in 2012 when visiting a friend but totally forgot where they were or what city they were in !! Thanks for the nostalgia. That yellow house had explicit erotica written all over the upstairs walls, totally nuts. Here's some photos from the interior of it. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. And yes, those were batting cages.
