it's now really and truly inaccessible.
My heart broke reading that.

Is this reality or my memory getting mileage? Am I staring at the sun or blood vessels in my eyelids

The mission to do so preoccupied my entire existence for several years, and I still get goosebumps thinking about those sketchy late night adventures with friends I'll never forget.

From the outside looking in, this was the least sketchy exploration that was ever successfully executed in Ontario. The initial shots of your equipment set were iconic with me, and I referred back to them many times over the years, for many different reasons. People would occasionally stumble upon your pics somewhere and ask me whether or not I knew explorers had been down into the tunnels, almost with a suggestion that they were throwing around the idea of doing the same thing. I would show them your equipment shot and when the reality of the initial capital spent and obvious planning set in, it would shut them up really fast. These would be the same guys hemming and hawing about spending over $20 on a flashlight, and greatest experience securing ropes would be trying to figure out how to tie yellow twine between two bare evergreen trunks to get a taut clothesline while camping!

I always loved dsankt's writeup of his experience at the Electrical Development Co. It was him and Kowalski who inspired me to see it for myself, what seems like forever ago now. The mission to do so preoccupied my entire existence for several years, and I still get goosebumps thinking about those sketchy late night adventures with friends I'll never forget. Unfortunately I never took the time to craft a proper story of my two visits, but the photos are at

and

They were in the process of actually cementing over the driveshaft openings during our last visit in 2010, sealing them up forever and ensuring that whatever metal ladders and flooring still existed at the time would surely be a crumbling mess today. It was always humid in the wheelpit, but it transformed into hilarious tropical steam-sauna once everything was covered up. My contact within the Parks Police tells me that even they haven't been down there since it was sealed, and that it's now really and truly inaccessible. It's one hell of sad ending to one of the most glorious feats of modern engineering, but I'm glad that I got to see it. That place is magical, and those memories are ones I'll never, ever forget.

Legendary shit and my eternal respect to you amd all the others who pulled it off!! Definitely one of the pinnacles of exploring history that may never be topped!! (Except maybe that Russian space shuttle discovery.....)

^^^ that,
and I do hope that within one's lifetime, somehow, there will be another opportunity for a human being to go down there!
