Abandoned Poetry

Now, I know UER, and UXing as a whole isn't the biggest fan of graffiti, but today I bring you something a little different. Still partly graffiti, but
something a little more... thoughtful.

Recently, I've found a few lines of prose here and there, written on the walls of abandonments.

It's wonderful finding a nice few lines of stream-of-consciousness poetry where you would least expect to. Kind of comparable to the feeling of watching
the rain lash the ground outside as you get cozy in a warm chair, after walking through the building storm.

When I see stuff like this, it makes me feel that even though the building may be dead, if these beautiful words can survive here, that anything can.

That anything can find its way, and everything will be okay.

Anyway -- I've compiled three examples which have found me so far, and I invite you to share anything interesting which you've come across!

Let's hope to find more examples of scrawled beauty in stasis!~

Transcription of poems (to save your eyes, my camera isn't very good...)

Untitled, by Unknown (found at Mirvish Village house in Toronto, ON)

Stagnant silence stifles creativity in exchange for productivity
Life sounds movement alive with the moment
Now iz noisey. Peace come within. Without, voices.
Nothing is silent
living is loud
(handclap)

Ode to Honest Ed's

Your twisting corridors
and uneven floors
pitched my stomach into sawdust frenzy
I swayed like ocean
among your placards
and bargain goods
my winter hands
thawing
as I de-mittened
to touch a scarf I could actually
afford
Now you are leaving
Gone
I can't afford
to forget you

How could we leave out the best in the business, a real Bukowski-esque line if I ever saw one...

Awesome thread you've started, poetry in such decrepit places is always so magical.

Thanks, that's a very kind sentiment! And, I agree, it is magical!

Thank you! This was actually taken in NYC when I was there for a short weekend trip. Completely unexpected find but still one of my favourites!

I wrote a haiku about Honest Ed's.

This place was a dump
Bulldoze it into matchsticks
Make room for condos
