To me, the pictures speak for themselves. Anyone who has been to this place has their own story,
and now all that history is coming down.

One day I got a good camera.

About how big is the location? I'm curious because parts of it seem very diverse and untouched while other parts look shot to hell (perhaps it was the demolition half completed)? I feel like it's not a huge location, but... am I wrong? Cool photos, at least you got to document the place before they raze it.

I think I'm the only one happy to see this place get leveled. It was such a dump, even 25 years ago. It was like a no-name dollar store you'd see in some mall that's about to get shut down, but everything was more expensive and everything was sticky.

Having said that, awesome photos and I bet it was a cool exploration!

You're right, there is more than just one area. There is a lot of ground they have to cover, and they've only just started. I have been documenting the block plus that is being demolished for this development. You can see my pictures here, still have many more to upload: http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=32667

I agree the store itself was a pretty big shit hole, especially in my lifetime, but I don't think total demolition was the best way to go with this area, and nor did the residents of the community. My preference would have been to gutting the store, developing some of the gaping parking lot behind it, and maintaining it as an artisan and local shopping flea market kind of scene.

It was pretty large, multiple floors, multiple buildings (some of which were existing smaller old buildings that were repurposed when it became a store by just knocking door holes in internal walls and connecting them).

(full disclosure: I'm the official project photographer and know it inside and out)

That just wasn't going to happen. The existing buildings were garbage and falling apart. The proposed redevelopment has the support of 3 resident associations in the area because the developer spent 4 years working with the community to get a project they'd be happy with. The retail component is going to be very interesting and not something we've seen on a project of this type before in Toronto (that I can recall).

It actually looks like there was some interesting architecture behind some of that signage, at some point.

Also, driving the excavator on the elevated portions would definitely give me the whim whams.

I've only ever been there once, but I recall an abandoned Bentley in the garage, with plate stickers from the 80s or 90s. I'm sure I have a photo of it buried on my computer somewhere.

Also, I'm with team Ed's-was-a-shithole.

80's Roller, had DVD screens in the headrests so it hadn't been dormant for too, too long but plates were at least a few years expired. I found a pic!

Allegedly it was Ed's car... I'm amazed it wasn't covered in sleazy advertising.

Wonder where it ended up?

I think I might have a photo of the dusty one from the garage, I just can't recall when I would've taken the photo, and I don't feel like looking through thousands of iPhone photos to find it.

Possibly ended up with the pile of cars from Regal? haha

That is the one that was in the garage... apparently the old iPhone 3 didn't really show the dust.

As much as I don't like those cars, I sure hope it didn't get squashed!

I went in before the demolishing began and it wasn't in the garage. My guess is the owner scraped it :/

Rosedale, maybe. Oshawa, no, because it's not a Monte Carlo.
