Heavy Metal Rules
by Ground State Photos, on Flickr

The metal mixing rules and ratios could still be found spray-painted on the wall inside this abandoned bronze casting foundry. A leaking water pipe made some parts of the production floor a bit of a skating rink. It was a bright, clear day outside, which contrasted with the sub-zero temperatures inside, making for a somewhat unnerving visit because the warmth of the sun kept making parts of the building flex and crack. That wouldn't have been a big deal, but I followed a set of footprints in the snow into the building that only went one direction; they didn't come back out.

"Is that a talon, or are you just happy to see me?"
No? How about....

"Giving me the bird?"
Still no? Geez! Tough crowd!...

I sort of chuckled like a stupid little schoolboy at the conveniently placed footing of this 3rd-year bald eagle, still sporting immature plumage, watching me from a nearby roost. I don't get to see these guys very often, but a few eagles started hanging around the Niagara River some seasons back and they appear to have become permanent residents in the area.

Ground State, the eagle shot is way too cool

I'm surprised you were able to get it.
The only eagle I ever saw spotted me almost as fast as I spotted him and bugged out...
maybe Canadian eagles are easier*

Maybe being a juvi makes them a bit more timid, but by 3rd season, I can't imagine that would make a difference. I can't get over the size difference between them and hawks though. Predominantly here in southern Ontario, every 'big bird' you see that isn't a vulture is almost invariably a red-tailed hawk. They're everywhere. But when you see one of these, you know right away that you're looking at something else. The towering height really stands out.

The lighting of 'Behind the Curtain' is pretty sick. Your pictures are nice. And that eagle is too cool! I appreciate the humor, even if the crotchety bird didn't get the jokes.

Yeah they are huge birds.
Their eyesight is exceptionally keen as I have witnessed... guess he was posing for you, very cool.

Saw my first a few years back in San Angelo TX. He was hunting along a large wide creek, maybe for water turtles on the rocks below.
Even though I was above by about 20 feet and a bit behind him on a small cliff about 30 feet away partially concealed, he spotted me almost instantly and got beaucoup out of there.

How big are those fuses (assuming they are fuses)? They look about a foot long.

Yes, they were each about a foot long. I think the only place I've seen bigger ones was the hydro station in Niagara Falls.
