Damn!!! Glad nobody was seriously injured! I’m a pretty hefty guy and I’ve had a few close calls as well. I got myself trapped one time in a floor I thought for sure was going to collapse. Fortunately I made it out without falling through. Gotta love rot!

You know it's funny, I had reservations about getting back into UE for years because I got fat, and it's my tall skinny friend that ends up falling. Turns out there's less to be afraid of than I thought, as long as you're careful.

I know this is for leaving but the dumbest thing I’ve done is when entering a location. The entrance is in a fire hydrant tunnel so I used a fire hydrant cover to get in with some friends. This fire hydrant is in a city so it’s not a good idea to go in with friends, at least not all at once. Anyways my first time there it was myself and 3 others and the first 3 went in and as they went in they went in all at once and before the second person got in all the way a couple on a horse and carriage rode past and stared at them so when we left we were really worried that police would be waiting for us on our way out.

I was a dumb ass about 3 years ago... so we were in a cave and we meet some new people in there and they treated us like shit so I decided to light multiple flares and smoke bombs to gas them out and if you know anything about caves there’s no air flow or ventilation so that was my dumb thing because we realized after we left that they could’ve died..

Heard some people nearby and got spooked, I started running and very loudly fell through the floor (thankfully it was the ground floor). Lesson learned: be quiet and slow, rather than quick and loud.

in -42 degree windchill we decided to go subter sub level and get to shaking off the cold in 60degree warm Mother Earth. Well inorder to get to where we were heading we had to trudge threw 20 ft of 2-3 foot deep ..... water....stuff sand bottom I ...hope *yuck-* anywho up to my crotch in the mystery fluid I said to my partner who was shivering that it’s a straight shot to the car we get undressed outside of the car while it warms up and we hop in warm and dry off to avoid frostbite. Cold tired worn out we are trudging three the 20 ft long 2-3 ft deep water and it’s right on the way out so we re soak our selfs and he stays back to get ropes worried that I’ll not make it to the car before freeze to death. Well I was making it just fine but the straight shot included massive amount of dangerous stares. My legs froze half way up the stairs literally solid 2 tights 1 expired jeans , 1 pair of sweats and 1 snow pants all saturated and frozen solid. The strength it took to break the Ice while carrying my trash look lord knows I couldn’t leave that behind. Was some strength I’ll tell you. So I get to the car in yuppy vile and start the engine hardly because my boots were not frozen in a clutch pressing position get outside strip down right there and then and sit down with heat on in car nursing my frostbitten cheeks and fingers and toes while witching my pants stand up froze solid in the stair climbing position like a statue as I drifted off to sleep for a quick power nap. Only to awaken to a meator maid tapping at my glass saying excuse me miss are you ok? Are these your pants? We got a call or a few about some pants disturbances well about some disturbing frozen pants and concern for the pantsless person freezing somewhere in the vicinity

I love exploring active and inactive office buildings when I can, especially the roofs. During one of my first forays onto a commercial roof I accidentally allowed the door to the first level of the roof to close behind me. I did not think anything about it and proceeded up a narrow flight of stairs to the actual roof access door. As I opened the access door I noticed a door stopper on the floor beside the door.

Something made me look at the door handle and latch. I quickly realized that it could only be opened from inside. Suddenly, I thought about the other door and if it was constructed in the same manner. It was. I was now locked inside the roof access area.

I started to panic. Fortunately, the place was also used to hide or store unused gear and excess materials. I inspected the door and noticed there was a space between the door and the frame. After a quick search, I was able to find a heavy large screwdriver among the stuff laying nearby. After about five attempts I was able to move the latch and open the door.

Lesson learned, roof doors generally need to be propped open when exploring rooftops.

Well, I guess I'll go first, since I'm the one asking. Yesterday, my best exploring buddy, myself, and another friend who thought it sounded cool went to see an old school in Mississippi. We usually day explore, but we went at night because of timing. That was probably the first mistake. I swear I shall never ever explore at night again. Everything was going smoothly, other than no good lighting, and then we left.

And then I set off the car alarm in front of the fucking place and like a million houses in the suburban neighborhood, we all screamed and ran for the car, I floored it with no headlights and while trying to turn the lights on I missed a stop sign and nose dived into a steep ass ditch going like 50.
Thank God for jeeps and steel bumpers because we dug like a five foot hole in the earth and had to call a tow truck and somehow the only thing that broke was the windshield. Oh and also my friends face because she didn't have a seat belt and went straight into the roll cage.

So since I just shared my very, extremely, monumentally stupid, somewhat near death experience, anyone else have any times where literally everything was going great until you left?

I ran from the place I was exploring to get the cops called on me the very next day, at the very same place I explored. (That I got away from, I was 300 ft away, they didn't see me)

I have had a bunch of close calls but nothing awful yet. Was exploring a hotel being demolished near downtown and got trapped inside for about an hour waiting him out. Another time leaving a site walked right out of the fence to a cop car waiting for me (but facing the wrong way and didn't see me)

Set off a motion alarm thinking it was a generator of some sort.

Ended up sliding myself under a fence and scraping my back on the concrete in the process.

Lol, never turn down pain meds... just in case.
Pain from knitting bone has a peculiar quality to it.
At first it doesn't seem so bad but then you realize that subtle dull red hot poker sort of pain is constant like a toothache.
It nags at you.
Mine was a pin/bone plug; after a few days the burning ache went away.

Woah I think I was there for this haha. Unless this happens frequently at this spot. I knew it wouldn't be long before I found someone I knew on here.

I once lit a road flare to explore a drainage tunnel. For some reason the thought didn't cross my mind that a road flare would fill the entirety of the tunnel behind me with that wonderful magnesium smoke. When I turnt around to leave I had to walk through my dumbassery.

Ever since then I've limited flare use to open ventilated structures.

This actually didn't happen to me, but to my exploring partner, and it definitely qualifies as "dumb."

We had just finished exploring a fairly interesting location (turned out to not be abandoned after all, but that's another story), when my friend noticed this water tower that looked like it had an impressive view from the top. The tower came with a ladder that conveniently went all the way up to the tippity top.

He really wanted to climb it.
I tried to warn him, but he didn't listen.

Fortunately, I opted out of that part of the exploring trip, because, all of that foliage he's climbing through to get to the top?
Yeah, turned out it was all poison ivy. The climb might have been fun at the time, but he paid dearly for that view for at least a week afterwards.

I've had my own brushes with that shit and I can see it from a mile away.

No thank you!

Was poking around an active location with some friends, and noticed a custodian. We turned to GTFO and exited through a door--we probably could've gotten away with no incident if we had been more subtle, but it had a detex on it that went off and started blaring, getting the attention of both the custodian and everyone in the immediate vicinity. We ended having to run our ass off because that prompted them to chase after us at top speed. Whoops.

I had the police follow me and my friend all the way out of town one time. We had got done exploring, went into another building with the door unlocked (but turned out to have a motion sensor?). We tripped that, walked around the block and decided to leave. While we were on our way back to the car he decided to check that the door we used to gain entrance to the first building was actually shut he did it all while a cop was watching. They proceeded to follow us all the way out of town.

I'm also feeling lucky reading through this as well. The closest I've gotten with trouble was just knowing when to bail out when a rowdier group of locals decided to show up. They ended up getting fined.
