How often do you guys do writeups on explorations?

Having recently joined uer, I decided to make a my first post as a detailed write up of a recent visit to an abandoned incinerator:

http://www.uer.ca/...urrpage=1&pp#post4

Generally I tried to follow this tutorial best I could:

https://www.uer.ca...d=1&threadid=96066

I really enjoyed documenting the trip in this format, as well as researching and sharing the history of the building. It is definitely something I would like to continue to do on future trips to more interesting places.
So now that I am looking to make more posts to contribute to the forum, I am wondering how often you guys document your trips on here, and what kinds of places do you generally make full write-ups on vs keep to yourself?
In addition, what information should I generally omit from a post about a location in order to preserve the site?

Awesome first post (I’m also in DFW, btw! 🙂). I wish more new members took the time to contribute quality material and actually read the posts like the write-up one you mentioned. If you keep doing that, you should get your FM in no time.

Your first post was great, looking forward to seeing more like that. That location is pretty well known and it doesn't seem like there's much left to be destroyed so I would say that doing a full write up is good for that. But other places should have much less information given to try to protect the location, as well as yourself. I'd say do a write up/post for any explore that you feel was worth sharing. I generally do one for when I have a decent set of photos from one location, or a bunch of photos from smaller sites that I put into one. I'll never post anything about an active location that I do just to be safe.

To sum things up, just try to balance out information and secrecy to keep it interesting and safe. Good luck on future explores

Great first post.

Omission details are really, location name, location, entry details.

You're doing great.

Let's see more!

Brokenbits,

I enjoy doing write ups of my various explorations. When I'm reading the forum, my favorite threads are those where the OP tells a story about the explore with pictures taking us from one point of interest to the next. Sure, I enjoy a "photo dump" if the person is a good photographer, but generally I like knowing about the whole adventure.

I always do a writeup, more for my own benefit. Photos can be made so much better with context or story, and I'd hate to forget either behind any of them.

Nice first posts. Welcome to the site

Depends if it's a quick trip or not. Sometimes it can be hard to get info about a site depending on its use.

Anything I find always goes in a word doc, regardless of whether or not I post about it. If the site feels like it is too accessible, I tend to err on omitting identifiable historical details. If the site is pretty open, semi-demolished, or I have permission from the owners/operators I will post more info. As mentioned above, specific location and POE details are best left out.

Still, a story, historical info, and/or urban legends are always a treat to read about.

I'm pretty awful at essay writing mostly due to laziness. I much prefer to tell stories with pictures. Maybe a video, although I dislike the sound of my voice on video so I rarely do those.

I tend to do write-ups with explores whenever I can. Feel like the history adds to the photos, and independent research is always fun.

Great first post.

When some people do their write-ups, they insist on letting you know how difficult and dangerous it was and how awesome they are.

It makes them sound like a familiar character.

I liked your post a lot!

I made a post on the rookie forum about the dangers of the highlight real. I don't do write ups sometimes because the places I go seem mundane in comparison to exploring the ISS of UER like some of you folks manage.

For me the story and situation makes a post even if the pics are mediocre. Its the journey not the destination.

We all have our own weights for what makes a cool post. I don't explore for notoriety or internet points, I have had experiences that are just for me. I am glad I found UER as a guy in his 40's creeping around can make you feel like, well a creep. I bring my daughter a lot of the time, she has got me out of a few scrapes with LEO.

That said I cant wait to see more of your experiences.
