| | | Posted by Dee Ashley 1. If it was a windy day, that would be my first guess. Wind can make some really bizarre (and often startling) noises in abandonments. Usually if I can find the source of the noise, it’s something hanging or loosened that each gust of wind is dragging, scraping, or banging into something else.
|
This sounds right, as it would explain why it would start up, continue for a while, then go away again at random intervals. I don't remember there being too much wind that day though so I'm wondering. Still sounds like the most plausible reason to me though. 3. It could be a wormhole.
|
Definitely a plausible option 2. Scrappers. More than once, I’ve been unaware of someone else in the building until I heard them sawing, banging, or dragging things from distant parts of the building via the pipes and ducts. The noise travels effectively and scrappers are incredibly loud.
| Maybe, I'd be surprised though. While the buildings are well hidden or at least somewhat camouflaged from the roads around it, it is surrounded on all sides by either major roads or housing developments. I had to use a bike to get to the site, but honestly, with this whole crisis thing happening, anything is possible. Posted by Radio2600 Sounds like a sump pump. Check the basement.

Honestly, I was most worried about another living thing, so if it is still there the next time I go, it definitely means that it wasn't caused by someone or an animal, which would be a big relief for me. I would be surprised if it is a sump pump because due to the size of the building, I would think they would have a large on-site crew to oversee it or at least one person since these buildings have seen their fair share of tagging and other such vandalism. Who knows though? Finally put up a post for my trip here so check it out if you want: http://www.uer.ca/...=1&threadid=131939I definitely need to go back and check this place out. I'll post when I end up doing it. -Bygone Era

| | | Just wondering what you guys might think it is.
| I'm late to the party here, but I'm 99.99% certain you heard a cordless sawzall. I spent 13 years working in HVAC and construction, and I recognized that sound right away. You can recognize the RPM of a cordless sawzall, because they vary by trigger pressure when you're using them. They also don't have any momentum (like a plug-in drill might) and can start and stop within a second. For reference, here's a clip of a sawzall at work: https://youtu.be/A_l2TZIrsgQ?t=6 They're cutting through wood in that clip above, but you can likely recognize the similarity. If I were a betting man, I'd say that you heard someone using an 18 volt cordless sawzall to cut through a half-rusted pipe. You weren't alone, but it was definitely human. Hope this helps!
