So i dont have much gear (2 flashlights, a cheap multi tool and some good rope) and im looking to acquire some more, which sparked my question

What gear do you use? / What gear do you recommend for a newer UE guy?

Just a quick recommendation. Try looking through the Rookie Forum as there have been a lot of equipment treads. You can also use the search feature to see what you can find. You'll probably get a better response from the members if you have done a little research ahead of time.

Not trying to put you off at all. Just that so many new members ask the same question that folks get a bit tired of writing the same answers over and over again.

A hat, because I hate getting bugs/shit/sand in my hair.

Other than beer and/or scotch, I think you've got the basics covered, outside of the obvious like seasonally appropriate clothes/footwear and a couple bucks for incidentals/hobos.

I like to keep it simple and take as little as possible unless I KNOW I'll need specifics.

Scroll down to the list of GEAR topics. They even break some down in to specific gear.

Cigarettes.

For smoking and/or giving to potentially hostile bums.

Did you put everything in the bag with the tripod? I'm looking a bag for my camera and books. So I can go shoot after or before school!

No, the bigger tripod doesn't fit in the sling pack, but look to the left and see the "octopus" tripod that can be used to shoot from most any angle. That does fit in the pack. Doubt if you could fit more that a few books in the pack and still have room for anything more than a flat point&shoot.

Looks like I just set a record for late responses!.

A good respirator (not the useless white dust masks) with the appropriate cartridges can often prove very useful.

Sometimes I bring gloves in case there's something there that I want to look closer at, but don't want to touch. Also, a good respirator for dust/mold is a great idea.

I bring the following to every explore:
My backpack (one of those tactical style so I can add/remove extra pouches and stuff as needed).
In my bag is:
-flashlight
-batteries
-safety glasses
-gloves (good heavy duty work gloves)
-small first aid kit (some Band-Aids, gauze, medical tape, alcohol pads)
-water bottle
-small snack (usually just a granola bar or a small bag of cheezits)
-extra chargers/cables to use in the car
-roll of toilet paper (mostly for blowing my nose as needed, I've got pretty bad allergies).
-hand sanitizer
-fire starters (will explain below)
-notebook/pen
-asthma inhaler
-Tylenol
-electrical tape
-zip ties

Other things I'll bring, which of course vary upon location:
-respirator
-change of clothes (if I know I'll get wet or muddy)
-hard hat (some places I just feel more comfortable wearing one as a safety precaution)

Things I plan to add/improve
-high power glow sticks, in case I'm ever without my flashlight
-head lamp, to free up a hand
-upgrade first aid kit a little
-gas meter
-a couple MREs
-bug repellent

On my person I carry:
-phone (duh, since it doubles as my camera)
-wallet (again, duh)
-pack of smokes/lighter (for smoking, and as a "peace offering" if I ever encounter an angry bum/squatter
-extra cash in case of an emergency (NOT a lot, usually just like $30)
-Folding knife (as a tool; it's not meant to be a weapon unless absolutely necessary)

Now, to explain the fire starters: I am by no means an arsonist, pyromaniac or anything of the sort. I think with a survival mentality (which should be obvious given most of what I carry), and if I'm ever in a situation where I'm trapped somewhere for any reason for an extended period, I want to make sure I can have a fire and keep warm.

Now, I know it doesn't necessarily count as "gear" but as far as attire goes, I wear jeans or cargo pants, steel toed boots, a long sleeve shirt or hoodie (depending on the weather maybe my Carhartt jacket as well), a hat and sunglasses.

As a lone wolf I dress better than most because if I get hurt somewhere I don't have a friend to help me with my boo boo's.

I ride a motorcycle to the areas so I sport a Knox armored jacket and some riding pants with integrated kneepads. I wear breathable motorcycle gloves, a bandana and steel toe boots. I find myself kneeling and climbing a lot so the extra armor helps me plenty and I'll be damned if a homeless guy clubbing me from behind with a stick will drop me in one hit.

I don't usually like having a backpack but instead prefer a side pack. I carry water, multitool, knife, a black diamond headlight, respirator and a small trauma kit. Some of you might think that's corny but a friend of mine stepped on a nail during one of his solo adventures and was bleeding everywhere like a stuck pig. That aint gonna be me.

Gear up accordingly, I don't understand why so many people wear shorts and a t-shirt while exploring then complain when they're getting stitches and a tetanus booster shot. Don't carry a huge backpack full of useless gadgets either 🙄

Happy hunting

I'm a lone explorer because I hate people.

Looks like only Steed has said it, pants. Countless times have I ripped my pants or dirtied them to the point where it is too suspicious or uncomfortable walking out of the spot. For less abandoned but more active spots I always carry a high visibility jacket/vest that doesn't look brand new. You also may find antiseptic and bandages very useful just in case you get injured.
