Hi,
There is a TB hospital near me that seems to have every possible entrance blocked. Do you guys have tips on finding clever ways to get into places that seem to be sealed up?

Try every door and window, and if it doesn't work, come back another time and try the same thing again.

Im not saying to break anything but basic tools can lead you far.

Work by night in severals steps, never have the tools on you or close by once youve made your entry.

Just look what can be unmounted or unscrewed and if it can put it back like it was before after.

Learn to jim and/or picklock.

Look for roof acess.

There is always a way.

Also look up. A lot of places don't tend to have the upper floors boarded, if there is an open or openable upper floor window find a ladder or something else to climb up and in.

If it's part of a complex there could be tunnels connecting the buildings. Good entrances are almost never obvious.

THIS!! The first floor could be boarded up tight, but the second floor almost always has a broken window or hole. I've been telling myself for years that I need to weld together a grappling hook....

Don't give up so easily.

Story 1

Years ago, there was an abandoned school. The POE was well known and owners closed it up by driving 1" rebar into the ground and sealing them in place with concrete. They also wrote in the concrete: "Try now assholes".

Challenge accepted!

I went back to the car and got my cordless Sawzall. It took about 30 minutes to cut through all the rebar, but we got in.

Story 2

Someone I know who is a superb photographer and daring explorer, bot has no mechanical smarts whatsoever. Then there's me, I'm crummy photographer and not terribly adventurous, but can think my way through a variety of problems.

About 15 years ago, the MTA changed the design of the hatch locks to what you see below. He was kind of stumped on how to get it open.

In the past, you just used a pair of long-nose Vise-Grips to unscrew the triangular bolt in the middle and then pull it out to unlock the hatch. The new design has the triangular bolt screwed into the outer ring. If you try to unscrew the triangular bolt, the outer ring just spins.

He asked my advice and I said: "go get a spanner wrench that fits the holes in the outer ring to hold it in place." Then I had explain what a spanner wrench was, but all told, together we turned a seemingly impossible problem into easy-peasy.

Remember what Victor Willis said:

No man does it all by himself.
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf
