Don't give up so easily.
Story 1 Years ago, there was an abandoned school. The POE was well known and owners closed it up by driving 1" rebar into the ground and sealing them in place with concrete. They also wrote in the concrete: "Try now assholes".
Challenge accepted!
I went back to the car and got my cordless Sawzall. It took about 30 minutes to cut through all the rebar, but we got in.
Story 2 Someone I know who is a superb photographer and daring explorer, bot has no mechanical smarts whatsoever. Then there's me, I'm crummy photographer and not terribly adventurous, but can think my way through a variety of problems.
About 15 years ago, the MTA changed the design of the hatch locks to what you see below. He was kind of stumped on how to get it open.
In the past, you just used a pair of long-nose Vise-Grips to unscrew the triangular bolt in the middle and then pull it out to unlock the hatch. The new design has the triangular bolt screwed into the outer ring. If you try to unscrew the triangular bolt, the outer ring just spins.
He asked my advice and I said: "go get a spanner wrench that fits the holes in the outer ring to hold it in place." Then I had explain what a spanner wrench was, but all told, together we turned a seemingly impossible problem into easy-peasy.
Remember what Victor Willis said:
No man does it all by himself.
