Garageband troubles, need Mac Expertise

Howdy there, I just joined the board, didn't even know it existed. So I'm just gonna go right ahead and start asking stupid questions now : D Ok so I got a Powerbook G4 from my College, and it came with TONNES of stuff, FANTASTIC stuff, and I have since loaded it to the brim with all my favourite software and some interesting new stuff as well. the one thing i'm missing though is Garageband. The thing came with the ilife bundle, EXCEPT they didn't load Garageband which is the real pisser, or Toast which they were supposed to but that's neither here nor there. Having no concerns for the scruples of such actions seeing as how this compiter is totally licensed for it, I downloaded Garageband off of LimeWire. no problem it installed fine, but it won't open because it didn't come with any instruments. I have since downloaded jam Pack 1.0 to try and install that, see if it would work, but no luck. it won't let me mount the .dmg file. I suspect the jam pack may have the wrong file extension but can't for the life of me figure out what it would be. I opened it up in textEdit and the header doesn't look like a dmg, but i don't know what it DOES look like either. mostly, i'd like to know what /library/Application Support/Garageband is SUPPOSED to look like in case all I need to do is rename this one file. Any other help anyone can offer is greatly appreaciated though

I am not sure, as I do not have either, but I was under the impression that there were 2 versions of iLife: 1 with Garage Band that came on a DVD disk, and one without, that came on a CD or 2. So it could be that, while you downloaded the program, the intraments take up a LOT more room.

Again, that is just a guess.

Hey inside of your garageband folder in application support you should have three folders named: Apple Loops, Apple Loop Index, and Instrument Library. The Apple loops folder should contain about 1.03 GB of files and the Instrument Library should hold about 799.7MB worth of files. Try changing the extension to .sit and see if the person who stuffed it was trying to pass it off as a disk image when it really is a stuffed file(just a thought).

Even easier method would be since you have garageband already installed and your college gave you these powerbooks I am sure someone around you has a working copy. Just connect your PB with someone elses via a firewire cable, start your book in firewire target disk mode (hold down the "T" key on startup" - copy their garageband application support folder and put it in your application support folder. Make sure you eject your connection before unpluging your book. restart and enjoy.

Any more mac questions don't hesitate to PM me, anyone.
