Hey everyone, been doing urban exploring for many years now but this is my first post here so bear with me.

A few weeks ago a friend of mine brought up going into the hearn, our scheduled day was pushed a few times until we were able to put together a last minute trip this weekend.

My previous research suggested that there was relaxed security there, a security guard stationed at the front only with many possible entry ways including open doors and broken windows on the ground level.

Upon arrival, we were able to determine the position of the security guard, there were also trucks pulling into the parking lot there, we were headed there on a Sunday so we wrongfully believed that there wouldn't be many people there.

We made our way over the fence, using bushes and trees as cover to put us in a position out of view of the security checkpoint. However all of the windows were boarded up, big boulders were pushed in front of doors to prevent them from opening. However, the main thing is that the security guard actually does patrols around the plant in a golf cart which we were forced to evade.

Annnnd entry details removed...

Inside people were working when we were there. Water was seeping in though the roof into tarps, providing enough noise to cover the one we made. We managed to hear the footsteps and used to the sounds to evade any workers there. There were many weird things inside, moose antlers, blacksmith tools, pipes, trees among other things, I'm guessing movie props.

We got our way to the staircase, from which you can reach any point of the building, however we only managed to explore the first 2 floors as activity there was really picking up, at one point we had to hide in a dark control room. We made our way out from where we came and that was that.

All in all it was very risky, but very worth it. Don't go there if you don't know what you're doing.

I would not explain literally all the security mesures and then give the POE.

This forum is public and make it easy for everyone is not the best thing.

Glad you could got inside though!

LOLOL this should be a pinned post of how NOT to post in a public forum!

Your first mistake was starting from the bottom and going up, you should have climbed to the very top and explored down from there, you'd have had a much longer explore and way more gratifying experience

Your second mistake
the hearn

There is not and has never been and should never be a "the" when describing Hearn, unless you are being goofy on purpose, in which case you would say "Teh Hearn"

Lastly, as my furry french friend said, glad you got in it's a must see for everyone in the area!

It's kind of unfortunate to hear that they've both gutted it further and stepped up security. I saw it in the golden era when there were multiple entrances and the generators were still there. It was amazing.

I'm glad I saw Nanticoke after they took it offline. That place was incredible, with the epic conveyor belt, all the generators being intact, the numerous control rooms, the cranes, the views from the roof, and the electric utility vehicles and tricycles.

I'll never forget the long walk up the coal conveyor belt, opening a side door, and being surprised to find myself on the roof. There was one double-height room at the base of the conveyor belt that was flooded. The solid ice on the floor meant no need for walking down a staircase and back up! It was a like a Super Nintendo game

Nanticoke

Man that walk up the conveyors was PAINFUL and confusing as hell, all the way up, then down, then back up again.

But yes, that was an experience I'll never forget!!

When I heard people calling it "The Hearn", I wondered where that came from.

The official name is: "The Richard L. Hearn Generating Station", so maybe calling it The Hearn is more correct than we'd like to believe.

This name was re-popularized during the 2016 Luminato inhabitation, which was probably the biggest entry into public consciousness of the address. There was a ton of pushback re. the 'branding'. The idea, I think, was to get people used to it not as 'Hearn, that weird red ruin-thing', but as a cool new site to redevelop and re-think. Think of it in terms of a reversal of "The Facebook" vs. "Facebook".

FYI this thing: https://www.jonath...no.com/generation/

Nice to see inside, it's been a few years

Not saying it would actually work, but having once been given permission to shoot inside while they were filming a movie, I think the best tactic in this scenario is to just act confident while on site. I had permission from the owner of the movie studio, but no credentials or anything, and just wandered around like I owned the place. I nodded to anyone I saw and even asked some people where the bathrooms were. Nobody stopped and asked me who I was or if I was allowed inside, probably because I walked with the confidence of someone allowed to be there. Obviously that's easier said than done, but something it's the best tactic.

Fucking incredible set of photos dude! I recall many of them, but don't think I ever saw the whole batch in one spot before. Not surprised of course, you're always killing it!

Thanks, man. And re "Nobody stopped and asked me who I was or if I was allowed inside, probably because I walked with the confidence of someone allowed to be there." -- absolutely. This was part of Ninjalicious' UE 101, in fact : )
