Anyone had any experience or interest in building a modular synthesizer (like a Moog or this DIY synth http://rubidium.dyndns.org/~magnus/synths/friends/stopp/)?

wow...

I would seriously enjoy assembling and playing with something like that, but I'm not the kind of guy to design one.

Interest, yes! Money or know how, No.

But I'd kill to play around with one of those, I do a lot of home recording and love messing around with instruments and equipment I can't afford.

I'm seriously getting interested in starting to work on one in the time range of the next couple of months. Could this go the way of other electronics projects I wanted to do, only to get sidelined like some of these? Quite possibly, but hopefully some of these will get completed too.

--Fixing LED sign I obtained 2 or so years ago. Currently sitting on top of kitchen cabinets.

--Home-brew BPM (beats per minute) counter, probably using a trackpad I got off of eBay and some blue LED seven segment displays from Panasonic to make it look cool.

--Long-exposure (electronic) cable release controller for my camera. Thought of ~Feb '04 near Cannon Falls, MN, while warming up in katwoman's car following some full-moon photography of an abandoned mill.

--Long distance sonic rangefinder, ideally used to help map an extensive cave system near here.

Any bets on what else I might come up with that'd push the synthesizer to the side?

On the other hand, I'll be done with school soon and (theoretically) have more free time in the evenings to make these things.

You could certainly come along with me to Ax Man and I could think up a dozen or so different projects that I've always wanted to do, but I suck at electronics these days. I haven't soldered in several years and don't even begin to remember the color codes for transistors. My problem is learning something and being into it for awhile, but never retaining the knowledge once I set it aside.

That reminds me, I need to get down to Junkyard's soon and work on my motorcycle, so I can justify spending $300 bucks on it, to my girlfriend.
