Sure we all know what gear everyone is sporting for regular still shots, but what about for those "special" (sometimes 'short bus special') films that some of us make? Personally I've been shotting with these:

for quick scouting and just fooling around I use a Sharp Hi8 Viewcam. Although when the going gets serious or I'm feeling like using 35mm I use my "baby"...

Good ole Panaflex handheld. Maybe one day I'll actually make money from it

...and I wonder why I'm broke

Uh, can I invite you to the cities for a week or two and shoot some 35 with that thing. Jesus, I never met anyone that owned a 35mm film camera before, been on some productions that rented one, but no one ever owned one. How much did you pick that up for?

As for me, I most often shoot on miniDV with my 1 chip Sony handycam or my father's 3 chip Sony TRV-900. occasionally I shoot Super-8, I have a bunch of different super-8 cameras I use for that. Most are cheap thrift store or garage sale treasures. I did buy a set of three nice Honeywell cameras from a camera store in KC, that shoot regular 8mm, Super 8mm cartridges, and what is called double super-8 for longer takes. I have two Bolex 16mm cameras, one is set up on an old copy stand for animation and isn't really that great of a camera. The other is very nice for all shooting needs except I don't have a sync motor so it's for silent films only. I haven't pulled it out since I was in 16mm Film class, because I just can't afford shooting on 16mm right now.

Nice camera man, hope you get some use out of it, and hopefully some money.

Hmmm. I might be able to make it out that way, but not for a while. Me and Carrie are moving back to PA at the end of December. So I really can't say definately until we're all settled in and the like.

How much did it cost? Way too much money lol. I got it for $40,000 at a sherriff's auction of seized property. Gotta love repo's! List price for it is somewhere in the $175-240,000 range. All that money I saved has gone into film stock though. Good 35mm is damn expensive, but worth it in the long run.

What kind of stuff did you want filmed? Just so I can get an idea of what equipment I may need, ect...

HauntedPa, I was joking with envy, but when I have the cash to fund a nice 35mm short I will definitely try and get in touch with you and see if we could work something out. But that might be awhile.

The campus TV station I work at has two Mini-Dv ghettocams, they totally blow. Single chip, no manual options, craptastic lens, and after a year of use they're starting to eat tapes.

We've had two GL-1s on order, along with a Mini-DV/SVHS deck, a mixer, and some tripods for over a year, but the purchasing department is too busy masturbating to get the stuff to us. So far we've been producing and broadcasting with a mixture of dumpster dived and "liberated" equipment.

At this point i just borrow whatever miniDV I can. My mom has a very nice 3CCD, but I wanna get my own, and it doesn't need to be anything special. Right now i'm torn between the lowest-end Sony and i think Toshiba at Future Shop. they're both like 599, but the sony's smaller, sexier, and has better night shot, though they're both essentially devoid of features. All I need are stop, play and record : D

I've got... let's see three fully operational super 8 cameras (Canon 518SV, Chinon 506SM/XL and Kodak 33XL), two super 8 cameras waiting to be retrofitted into FX cameras (thanks to the inspiration of the guys at http://www.friendlyfirefilms.ca/), a double super 8 camera, a regular 8, and a 16mm Krasnogorsk-3.

I'm currently shopping for a MiniDV camera. Right now I'm focussed on the Panasonic AG-DVC30 but I'm looking at anything in the $2000USD price range, new or used, so if anyone's selling or has any advice...
