Work Place Ghost Stories

I got this idea from a paranormal board I'm a member of,and thought I'd share my stories here, too. Love to hear any tales that you all have too!

Here's a couple of mine;

The first is from when I worked as a housekeeper for a few years at a still active Holiday Inn.

The hotel was built in the 80's and shortly after it opened,a man hung himself in a fourth floor room. A housekeeper discovered him,he had hung himself using something that he tied around the knob, then slung over the door in the bathroom, which is immediately to the right of the front door. A crack in the door jamb is still visible,as is a bleached out area immediately underneath where he was found.

I started working there many years later, but I began to get glimpses of a man with jeans,a dark tee shirt and short gray/black hair. The windowless hallways were quite eerie anyway, but much moreso when I began seeing him duck through closed doors of unoccupied rooms and such. He also liked to unplug the vacuum cleaner on me,but the worst was when I was cleaning an end unit late one afternoon. I was scrubbing a tub when I felt someone looking at me. I turned around and saw him,for just a second, staring at me.

A second one is a woman who died in a room, while I was working there. There had been a major snowstorm that day and when she didn't check out as scheduled,my supervisor found her on the floor, she passed from an overdose and had left a note for her family. The hotel was filling up fast because of the storm and it took the coroner hours before they could remove her body, unseen by guests. Anyway,it didn't take long before she too,was sensed roaming the halls. The room exuded a deep sadness and a couple of unknowing guests spoke of feeling really uncomfortable in that room.

The last was at a once notorious biker bar I waitressed at,which had seen a total of four homicides that I'm aware of. The bar had few patrons by the time I worked there because of it's reputation, but the building is very old, and creepy when empty.
I was helping with closing duties one night, and my co worker was behind the bar, stocking beer.
Near the front doors,I bent down to unplug a juke box when I spotted a very heavy woman, wearing a full length skirt, sweeping the floor with a corn broom. She had her back to me but I saw her quite clearly, she had short or tied up dark hair. I saw her for a good few seconds before she faded away.
This bar has now sat empty for about a year now, having been involved with yet another fatal shooting which happened down the street from where I lived at the time.

ok, so my mom got back from a ski trip today and though neither of us have worked in a place that is haunted, she stayed in an inn that was haunted. Everyone that works there has seen the apparition of a little girl wandering the halls.. apparently she lived there back in the late 1800's... and apparently she opens windows in the middle of the night even though the windows are pretty hard to unlock and open..
I dont know the name of the place because my mom didnt mention it, but its in Knowlton, Quebec..

I used to work for a hospital in Ticonderoga, NY.
Places like this are definitely full of paranormal activity.
I was just a secretary, radio operator and switchboard operator, but occasionally my duties would take me to the morgue for death certificates or helping the coroner or one of his designees or someone from the funeral home find a body in cold storage. I didn't handle bodies, thank god, or else I don't think I could have stayed there for three years, all I did was point them in the right direction and fill out the paperwork.
Anyway, the last time I had to go down there was shortly before I left that job to go to another, more lucrative position...I'll never forget what I saw there.
When the place was built, it was a full service hospital, maternity ward, autopsy, etc.
They never removed the drain tables in the morgue and one night I was down there with someone from a local funeral home, showing him which locker one particular patient was in and gathered around one of the tables were what looked like four doctors...no one I knew and I knew that they hadn't performed an autopsy in there in god knows how many years. I saw it in the reflection of my glasses behind me. At the time, I wore large round glasses and had really short hair, so things reflected behind me...I turned around to say something, they were gone. The table was just standing there...I shook my head, turned back to the locker and I saw them again...the attendant from the funeral home didn't see anything...but that scared the hell out of me.
Along with the elevator moving between floors at night with no one in it, windows and doors opening and closing in an unused inpatient wing, among other things.
But that night, I thought I was going to have to go home early because of what I saw, I thought I was crazy.
I found out later that there was a pathologist and two nurses that used to live on the property while they were practicing. I didn't find out their names, nor did I care, all I wanted to do was go start my new job, in an even more haunted hospital, which I found out about later.
Sadly though, because I was on day shift all the time, I never got to see anything good happen, not like the ghosts that night anyway.
I know the place I work now is haunted as well, many people have been killed there, most of them traumatically and sometimes...I just feel like someone or something is watching me. It's not just the security cameras either, it's just the general place and it's not that I feel like a person is watching me...it's just this feeling I get when I'm on night shift sometimes. I've yet to see anything, or hear anything, but I'm betting eventually I will.

LOL! You should have seen me when it happened.
I was about ready to piss myself that night. I still can't figure why when I turned around, I couldn't see them, but in the reflection of my glasses, I could.
In the years since it happened, I haven't been able to find a reason why I could see it that way, and why when I turned around, it was gone.

This is one I didn't include in my first post about things I had experienced.

Right after I graduated high school in 1997 I worked at a local Aircraft museum here. I would be the last one out of the place thus turning off all the hangar lights and locking the doors etc.

Ok, first some background on this one particular aircraft. It is a Grumman S2F-1 Tracker, an anti submarine bomber that flew off aircraft carriers. This one that the story involves was deployed on the U.S.S Phillipine Sea, a smaller aircraft carrier. One night a crew member walked into the propeller of the Port engine while the plane was running on deck, thus killing himself.
A close friend of the family had bought the S-2 and had it completely restored back in the early 90s. I used to get to go up in it on the weekends when they flew and actually it was the first plane I ever actually got to fly. After that it was bought by the museum I was to later work for.

Back to the story: One evening after everyone had left I shut off the lights in the other 3 hangars and locked them up tight. My truck was parked behind hangar 4 (where the S2 is) so I always walked out that one locking it up last. These are large hangars and this one had the light switch at the front on the opposite side as the door. So you would have to walk to the door in the pitch (really) dark. I flipped off the light and made my way for the door. Halfway there I heard a loud metallic sound, like someone had dropped a wrench or something. Not really thinking anything of it I kept walking. Next I heard shuffling footsteps, I moved back and stood in silence for a while. More subtitle noises happened, like someone was working on a plane in the opposite corner (where the S2 was). By this time I had quietly made my way back to the lights and flipped them on.

Walking over to the area where I heard the noise I made a careful inspection of the hangar. Nothing there, no one, nothing on the ground....... I had thought it was my buddy Dan playing a joke on me but like I said no one was there. By this time while standing near the port engine of the S2 I had an uncontrollable chill come over me. By this time I split, but right after I turned out the lights I heard the same metallic object hitting the ground again.

Heard things a couple of more times before I mentioned it to my boss. Only then did he tell me the aircrafts history AND that others had heard mysterious things too.

Maybe Im not a nutjob after all!

Hangar with the arrow is where all this happened.

This is the S2, this engine (Port or Left) is where the sailor walked into the prop. Note the red line on the fuselage, that is the death line, showing where the prop is when its turning.

Bustedknuckle, you're a brave one to have worked in such a place, though it must have been quite interesting. We have a similar museum here which I've only visited once because of the overwhelming, eerie creepy factor of the place. I couldn't imagine being there alone at night. Cool story!

The mill I work at is right on the shores of Lake Champlain, just a smidge north of Ticonderoga, New York. There have been people paddling up and down that lake since time began, or at least Indians happened to this side of the continent and a fair portion of the French And Indian War, and American Revolution were fought in this area. Anyways, as you guys know, we work a rotating shift which means for seven days, I am at that mill from 11pm to 7am... There are these silos that my job requires me to go sweep and shovel out... now, ordinarily, whoopty-fucking-doo, but at night, these things are creepy as hell and I am always seeing someone just out of the corner of my eye. I turn around, they're gone. What is kind of funny is that I'm not the only one to get the creeps out in the chip silos either...

All over our part of the mill there are little cubbies that you can hide and sleep in, one of them being the K1000, basically a little hidden room that holds instrumentation and manual adjustments for the digester. I will not go in the K1000, at all... I don't know why, it just gives me the colds.

anyways, who would've thought a modern day paper mill would be creepy?

Never heard it put that way before. But when you know something aint right you just know.

All crazy stories. Wiccan, I think if I had to clean a room that some dude hung himself in (complete with "evidence") they would have to pay me mega bucks.

Shael, Your morgue experience almost sounds like a tool video to me. At least that is what came to mind. Way freaky.

Sam (and Shael), Im sure that mill is haunted as f... I cant imagine all the people that have been maimed while working there. I had to do a service call once at a paper mill. The day before a guy had been run over and crushed by one of those gigantic rolls of paper (the ones the forklift with the big spear on front picks up...making any sense?) I dunno whether he made it or not.

The place I work in is an ex canning factory, built in the 1920s. I'd say it's about 80,000 sq. feet, 2 levels. It was abandoned from 1972 to 2005 when it was purchased by my boss, and turned into a Canoe and Kayak factory, as well as a race shop (the part I work in)

This place CREEPS me out, especially if I'm working there alone at night. I usually don't even leave the garage area when I'm there alone at night, I just feel like I'm getting watched the whole time. It's a really odd building, judging by the differences in architecture and construction, parts were added and taken away over the years. The two upstairs areas are connected by a super sketchy catwalk, there's a secret (unused) basement area under one part, only accessible from outside the building... it's a really odd place.

There's even an abandoned portion of the factory that was never re-done, it's about a 3000 sq. foot section in the upstairs, overlooking the lake. The only way in is through an upstairs window using a ladder. I went in once, and again, it just creeped me out. Although it'd probably make a sweet apartment, minus the creepy factor.

Having said this... yesterday I explored an abandoned mine shaft, and went in as far as I could, till I hit flooding. Without a flashlight (used my cell phone and camera flash for light). So I don't usually get too creeped out.

Being interested in the ministry, I am often found working in old churches. I can tell you that old Christians never die, and they don't always fade away either.

Once I was cleaning in a church where I was a janitor. I was the only one in the building, and I had just finished vacuuming in the nursery. The nursery has its own bathroom, and I would have seen anyone going in there because I had just cleaned in there a minute or two before. Well, I closed the door when I was done.

As I was preparing to haul the sweeper to its next destination, I looked up, the door opened, and a woman walked out. She was about four feet away. I could see her, but there was no noise, and as I looked up to see what she wanted, it occurred to me that she should not be there. No sooner did I realize this than she vanished and the door was closed.

Battery powered toys in that same nursery sometimes turn on for no reason.

I've also seen someone, can't tell if they are male or female, hanging around the baptismal font in the sanctuary when I am cleaning in there. They apparently don't approve much of my cleaning skills. Or they are afraid I will mess up the altar. It is a bit disconcerting sometimes to walk into a place where you are supposed to clean, and get this feeling of "Get out, you *MAN*. Men can't clean. You'll only make a mess."

I am now serving as a student pastor at another, even older church. Back in the day, it used to be quite a ritzy place. Now, we serve mainly working poor and homeless people. One time, I was working with a guy, standard pastoral counseling stuff. I got the feeling that an old guy in a very expensive suit was looking over my shoulder and telling that guy (who thankfully could not perceive him) to go away. I could see him only in my "mind's eye", but I could sure feel his disapproval.

Pretty spooky stories.

When I was working at the bank, I was in the Computer department and worked rotating shifts. Some shifts, I would be working alone. One of our sites was in a pretty old building and I would from time to time see an elderly lady in white out of the corner of my eye. I would turn and she was gone. Another co-worker had seen her as well (same circumstances).

I found out later that the previous owner's wife had died in that building from a massive stroke and she has been seen around the place by the Security guards who work there on the night shifts. I put out an invitation to her to join me for a cup of tea but sadly, she never took me up on it.

The place has been since converted to condos and there was a murder suicide there. I wonder if there are more ghosts there now.

That's called a Dong truck, which is used to pick up cutter logs of paper that go to the machines that cut them and wrap the reams of paper and put them into a box and I think I finally figured out who's watching me and it has to do with something not so pleasant.
The bad thing is I have a weird history with that place to begin with.
I worked there for a summer 15 years ago, when I was in college. Right before I left in August of 1993 to go back to school for the year, I was asked to train a guy on broke in the department I work in now.
He was fine, nothing happened and right after I left, he took a permanent transfer to the machine room. Two weeks later, he was killed when a reel fell on him. A reel is a big roller that collects paper off the machine and then goes to the winder to unwind the paper onto cardboard cores.
Anyway, I think I figured out who's watching me...I always forget that history...I keep seeing things out of the corner of my eye...well...I'm really beginning to believe it's him.
I'm waiting for next 11-7, maybe he'll show himself.
Also Sam, you've forgotten beheading, being dragged through a paper machine and drowning.

Very interesting to see so many stories, thanks everyone! Shael and Sam,I don't know if I could handle working somewhere that has seen so much tragedy, must be quite the vibe there. Shael,I'm willing to bet that that is the fellow that's watching you.

Your story reminded me of a little corner of hell I worked at until the summer time,at a recycling plant. It's actually in the LDB,here http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=26041

Anyway, this place was once a Firestone plant for many years,I think some of the history is written in the location info.

I'd often see a man in dark coveralls and sometimes a reflective vest, standing off on an inaccessible ledge,or just standing in the distance, watching us work. I also glimpsed him several times standing in a locked, fenced storage spot by the entrance. I checked for footprints many times and eventually even asked about him. Apparently,I'm not the only one who has seen him,my supervisor told me that he's been around for years, she calls him her little friend.

I'm not aware of any deaths there while it was Canada Fibers, but I don't doubt that there were some when it was a tire manufacturing plant.

~Okay,no history on the place,I'll look it up and add it.

Where I work, it's not so bad, but upstairs on the east end of the machine room, there is a vibe, kind of odd near the core saw and core racks/storage areas. That end of the machine room is generally where the fatalities happened, if somebody's gonna get hurt, usually it's right there. Either there or in a section about 50 feet west of it.
It's the one place that I have to go that I don't like going, especially at night. I work on the rewinders downstairs in my department occasionally, depending on when someone goes on vacation, and once in a while, I have to go up and cut cores in the machine room. I mean, there's always people around, but it's the one area that gives me the creeps.
One more thing...
I've noticed it, I don't know if Sam has, but just before someone gets hurt, facility wide, things tend to go to hell. It's like the gremlins come out. It doesn't matter how big or small the accident is, things start breaking and falling apart. It's something that the company's noticed, according to what I've heard, but they seem to believe there's a correlation between failures in equipment, failures that harm no one and the coming of an accident. I don't know if it happens in other places, but something on one end of the facility can fail, and an accident totally unrelated to the failure tends to occur somewhere else. I don't know if it's something like mass hysteria from the "failure" or if it's just odd coincidence, but usually when something big fails, something happens somewhere, whether it's a cut hand or a broken finger or a death.
