| | | I'm interested in knowing who's using Pro Tools and if you're a project studio, editor, professional studio (mix, edit, post, master, etc), or just enjoy reading and learning more about the Digidesign systems. I own two studios: a post-production suite (edit, master) and a MIDI suite (composing, scoring, edit). Both are used with Digidesign's Pro Tools 7.4, using a Digi002 control surface with over 60 plugins, and a Tascam M320 recoding console as my side mixer.
For those that are using a professional setup/studio (owner, engineer, user, etc), how does the consumer market affect your studio and business? For those using consumer or semi-pro equipment, do you find more clients flocking to you with your lower rates and ease of location, and how is your competition with the professional studios?
The reason I ask this, is I'm finding that there is a rise in consumers purchasing and using their PT equipment on a daily basis with more income than those with professional studios. The industry is slow, however since the release of Digidesign equipment to the consumer line, oppertunity for those consumers working in the recording industry has grown, and business for the professional line has weaken or have experienced a loss for growth in their client-relation list. What draws you to use Pro Tools vs Cubase or Logic? What kinds of areas or services do you offer with your Pro Tools studio? Discuss now...

| | | I've used Pro Tools LE for a lot of my soundwork for my video art, but I must say that i've switched to Logic/STP. Now, Pro Tools is essential for live recording. However, if you are like me and are designing soundscapes that are not for broadcast television or require live mics, Logic has an amazing workflow that is not nearly as clunky as Pro Tools can be. 3rd party softsynths don't bug out as much either. There's not a ton of difference between these programs except for how the workflow is laid out, and I find Logic to be super intuitive. Also, don't count out Soundtrack Pro, while its a lame multi-track sequencer it has within it the best intuitive graphical surround sound assignment interface.
