Kinda pointless unless they are planning on selling the property or salvaging it in some way.

They did a good job of cleaning out the foliage.

I haven't been keeping up on the news about this school, but never doubt the plans where a company decides to keep only the façade of a building (they get some "historical preservation" tax credits for this). A number of old buildings in Seattle were gutted in such a manner and then only a façade supported around with cross beams while they build a completely new/modern shell inside.

I'm baffled at what this might portend; the steps in the staircase still have heaps of wall slough, yet the hallway leading up to it is immaculate.

Perhaps they're making a smooth dollying surface?

That's exactly what I was thinking. There are so many locations I've seen in recent series on TV, I wouldn't be surprised if they hold off the demolition of the property until after they use the hell out of it as a backlot (and make a bit of cash). Considering most of it hasn't collapsed like some other structures means it's safe enough to use, but not clean enough in its prior state. Still, damn weird to see it that clean.
