Another Linseed Thread
< on 6/9/2022 9:23 PM >

Hi all, I've been lurking for a few years now but finally decided to make a post. My friend and I visited the Canada Linseed Oil Mills last weekend and it went pretty well! After scouting the location our original plan was to go in using a rope ladder but on the day of the visit we discovered a very easy POE so I'm guessing someone broke in recently. The inside was mostly gutted with a ton of graffiti and a couple of dead pigeons here and there but the view from the rooftop was amazing. Some pics:

In a city where a shitty little house goes for $1M, how does this land sit unused for 50+ years?

Renovation probably isn't in the city's budget

Nice shots! I didn't realize it was difficult to get in. I've never been but my general assumption was that it was pretty open. I'll have to try and visit before they knock it down..

Thanks! I biked past today to check it out and unfortunately the entrance we used was boarded shut. There were also a few workers inside the fence operating some kind of machine and a truck parked out back so hopefully they werent starting anything important..

Good luck on getting inside!!

Hopefully the location is still accessible. I haven't been inside in about a year but this was my first location and will therefore always be one of my favourites.

The outside was trashed last time I was there in Autumn 2021.

There's photos online of how it was a rail workshop next door (now a dog park) and I'm sure it will be reused at some point, preferable with someone else paying for the remediation. It's just something they can't readily convert to a bunch of shitty townhomes. The abandoned lot on Lansdowne that TTC used to own had the same issue but it now will be affordable housing. I'm shocked that something is actually happening with the wellington incinerator/slaughterhouse first which the city owns as well.
