I used to have a key to this place, but have since lost it. If you go there when the sailing program is working on or moving boats, they might let you go in to explore. It’s only used by the sailing program and DPW and there are only lights in the section where boats and other equipment are stored. It’s full of garbage and graffiti, but it’s still cool to explore. In the back of the bunker, it’s pitch black without a flashlight and it’s eerily quiet. You can still see some remnants from when it was a bunker during WW2, including what seems like a detention cell. The coastal artillery gun was fired once during the war and it shattered all the windows in the area and caused roof tiles to come loose as well. It was never fired again. Apparently, the bunkers were used to store Hercules missiles during the Cold War as well. Aside from that, all of us former sailing instructors swore the bunker was haunted, as each of us heard voices in there, even in groups. When I went in there alone last year, I got a faint recording of a voice on video, which was pretty spooky, but it could just be some sound phenomenon where voices from outside are carried through the bunker somehow. They’ve replaced the missing manholes and gotten rid of the rusty pieces of metal that hung from the ceiling at eye level, so it’s much safer to explore now. The sub-tunnels are probably still filled to calf-height with trash and rats, but those are worth exploring if you aren’t claustrophobic. Overall, a pretty neat little place. I’ve always wanted to make a short film in there.
