It was actually built by the company that gave the building to the y for 1.00 dollar in the late 70's. It was build in the 1950's by cyanamid canada as a recreation hall for its employees.at that time the plant was probably around 1000 workers. It had a large gym with stage, bowling alley in basement,kitchen, pool hall. not sure what else was in there I only remember going to christmas parties to get my gift as a kid.By the time I started working there in 1975 the building was already given to the ymca.the plant closed in 1992 and the y kept using the building until the new y was built around 2004-5 . it has been sitting empty rotting to the ground ever since.
