I noticed this place hadn't been validated in a few years and the trestles looked really cool so I went to check it out a few weeks ago with my friend John. The trestles and the house are still there but it's emptied out and boarded up and the whole section around the trestles has been turned into an outdoor sculpture garden where all the sculptures are built around old dead trees or made from trash found on the land. It's pretty cool actually. We ran into 3 guys on the property that were apart of the program and we asked them what was going on with the sculptures and property and they said that it was bought out by a group of artists and they were going to use it for an artist's residency and community called La Reunion. They gave me a web address to check it out too so I'd thought I'd share:

http://www.lareuniontx.org/About.aspx

If anyone's in the area check it out it's pretty cool. Some great sculptures including jellyfish that are made from plastic bags and coke bottles and look like they're floating above the creek. There's one that's been carved into a giant ladder, another surrounded by jagged rusted metal...it's an ongoing project too.

I didn't take any pics but I have some video of us exploring the sculpture garden and talking to the people we ran into so I'll have to upload it or take some screens from it and link to it later when I have more time. We got a lot of the sculptures on film and there's not too many pictures of the sculptures themselves on the website but they do have some very interesting videos and project information where you see what they have planned for the property...I think the most recent thing is something about a rapping cowboy lol so I'm not too sure about that one but everything is pretty cool.

We (La Reunion) have a cleanup every spring. You should come and meet some folks.
The place includes 35 acres of wild space and is a great place to take the dogs.

I'm a blatant waste of time and resources.

I didn't know you were a part of La Reunion Barry, that's awesome. I'm definitely down for that, I'd love to meet some more of the other artists there too and help with the project and cleanup, it sounds really cool. I guess for all I know you could of been one of the guys we ran into and we didn't even realize it...I believe one guys name was Scott and the other was David, there was one other guy there too but I didn't catch his name and he didn't say much, had a dog with them too. But anyway, I do some art myself so I have a huge appreciation for this whole project and would love to help with it though. Do you know when the next cleanup is? I couldn't find a date posted on the site but I did find an email for the one guy we talked to I think, Scott, it says to contact him about helping at the next cleanup so I guess I should just contact him then?

I may actually go check out the rappin cowboy event too, I just checked out some of his music and I actually kinda like it...not what you'd expect considering his title though that's for sure

Sara is sort of the honcho and Scott does all the maintenance and coordinates volunteers. I'm one of them. I just show up with tools and weedeaters and stuff and help hack new trails and the like. It's also the same group of people who do Artcon and the Texas Theater.

Oh okay cool...I guess I'll contact Sara and Scott then and see when the next cleanup is so I can maybe come by and help if I'm not working already, if it's in a couple weeks I can request off though. It sounds like fun. Maybe I'll see ya there.
