The story of St. Anthony's Church

The real name of his church is St. Anthony's. The first clue should be that if you click on the map you'll see it is located on St. Anthony's street. It was founded by Czech and Slovak immigrants from the Chatham area including my maternal and paternal grandparents. The original church was on Centre street but it was destroyed by a fire. A collection was made amongst the parishioners (mostly farmers who don't live near the church) to pay for the land and building for the new church. Some even participated in its building (my father recalls one gent working out in the cold and dying of pneumonia after it's completion). An artificial hill was created because many churches in the old country are on hills. The "upstairs" is the church and the "downstairs" is a hall and kitchen where many weddings and Christmas parties were held. In the back was the priest's residence(thus the tub) and garage. It was sold and demolished the same year the catholic church paid billions in settlements to molestation victims (no coincidence I'm sure) It was bought by a construction company for $160,000. Today there's nothing left of it (or the neighbouring St. Ambrose school next door-which was also demolished) but a few poorly built new houses. No good deed goes unpunished
