Explored a castle that was built by a railroad baron in the late 1800's
Not sure how long it has been abandoned but its in pretty rough shape. Looks like some local kids tried to make a haunted house for Halloween and failed miserably... but at least they didn't destroy the place all together.

This is a shame, I remember in the 70's when this place was still beautiful, and furnished. It was for sale in 2009; first for $850k, then in 2010 there was some sort of a 'yard/estate sale' held there (can't imagine what was left to sell), then in Feb of 2012 it was again for sale for $750k.

It was apparently bought sometime, as a real estate ad still up online (but not updated since 2011) claims the current owners are living in the caretakers house - or were, as of 2011:

"The castle, along with the six-room, three-bedroom caretaker' s house (which is currently occupied by the owners) is listed for sale at $1,950,000. The adjacent 3.31 acre parcel with 857 feet of frontage on Route 11 is available for $395,000."

This also means that the town of Gilford violated the terms under which the last heir willed this house in trust, with hundreds of thousands of dollars also left to maintain the trust. It was supposed to be maintained as public space, recreation and parks, and never allowed to be used commercially. Now Gilford has obviously both sold it for profit and changed the zoning to allow commercial enterprises (hotel, nursing homes, etc).

aaaaaaaand it looks like they cleaned her up and put her on the market..
