I found a site that has a fair bit of info, it says they used a Uniden Trunk Tracker, heres some info and a link, hopefully ex or nzero could help more, also I just wanted to thank you again for the radios.

TRUNKED SYSTEMS - POLICE AND FIRE

Beaufort County
Hilton Head, SC System is used by all county agencies, though
most traffic consists of fire or sheriff.
System does not change frequencies until the
repeater "drops," which makes monitoring
somewhat easier. It is quite helpful to
program the scanner to search the frequencies
in the order 860,859,8,7,6.2125; 860,859,8.4375
MHz (licensed for 856,857.4375 also but don't appear
to be used). This system even appears to substitute
for the UHF MED frequencies when ambulances
contact the hospital while enroute.

Common Beaufort Co. Codes:
Signal 8 Marajuana
10-38 Traffic Stop
10-55 Drunk Driver
10-76 On Scene
10-90 Burglar Alarm

From a contributor who wishes to remain anonymous:
(Note: This list has been updated using a list that appeared in the February, 1998
Scanning Report column in Monitoring Times magazine. Most of the updates were
annotations to talkgroups already listed, but there are a few new talkgroups.)

Im not too informed about trunking but from what I can read up there, it looks like a Motorola 800mhz Type II Trunked System, with a lot of talkgroups. Something like MTX838 or MTS series radio in 800mhz split should work, from what at least ExKa has taught me about trunking. He will be able to clear it up a little better for you.

Nice place, spent quite a few march breaks there a few years ago... None the less
Radioreference.com has all of the trunking codes...

I think its a type II system, as Nzero said, a MTSX 800mhz radio will do you... The programming is somewhat of an art, you'll prolly need to hack it to do more channels and whatnot, depending on the model. Makes sure it is programmed to NOT associate, kinda like logging onto the network my sending its "callsign"... Scanning = passive.

I woul reccomend to not get a MTS2000 unless you have to, it has TOOLPROOFING aka hack me and I die protection. I have a MTX8000 here that is working well on the Toronto system.

ciao

As there is with everything, but if you don't need the features that only a MTS2000 has, then its really not worth the risk or extra cost IMHO... It doesent get much easier then MTSX DEPOT to add things onto a MTX...
