here's the long and the short of it... they're going to give me $6600 for the Cobalt. I owe $11k (that was the payoff yesterday). That's rolling over roughly $5k on to the $28k of the car ($25k sticker, plus VT sales tax, PLUS NY sales tax, plus title + registration). So, now I that $25k car becomes a $33k car and my payment is right back around $600 a month which is what I am trying to avoid. And the really shitty part? The car is exactly what I am looking for. And the really shitty part for you VW guys? It FELT like my Cobalt. It was quick, tight, handled like a gokart, everything was RIGHT THERE. My only bitch about the car was the shifter felt vague and sloppy and I really wasn't fond of the plaid seating surfaces. But that is just harping on the fudge, and there is a short-shifter kit for the car already.

Fellas, with the way things are now, do I REALLY want another $600+ a month payment? Has the Cobalt really given me reason to bitch and throw it to the curb?

BUT... I really liked that little VW.
it made me forget about the 72 Super Beetle that tried to kill me, the 79 Rabbit that tried to kill me, the 87 Golf I tried to kill and my friends 98 Jetta that hated everyone.

i guess what i kept tripping on was how much like my car it felt. isn't that strange?

I'm going to third that...

Once I'm finished school and have a real job I hope to get a GTI, I've wanted one for a long time. That is, if I can't get an R

I guess the question is whether you'd rather be $4400 underwater on a Cobalt or more like $8000 underwater on the VW (I don't know how much it depreciates the second you drive it off the lot). Seems like you'd just be compounding your current problem.

i decided to keep my Cobalt.
BUT when and if i do decide to buy a new car, a Volkswagen will probably be the choice (if they're still building the GTi)

Arntzville basically said what some of my friends here had said and it makes sense. I just can't justify getting into another $600 a month payment... but, i will most likely buy a GTi.

Unfortunately, some of us have wives that require more than 2 doors. I don't mind so much, the extra doors do make any car better at being a primary vehicle when you normally drive with 3-4 people in the vehicle.

PM me if you want to get join our board and get fit!

I read that as your wife is large and requires two doors to enter the vehicle. I am a bastard.
