I just realized this would be the best place to post a very rad photo:

DJ Craig's first demonstration of High Angle Rope Work. Note the appropriate safety equipment. He has come a long way since then!

Not me, but super-rad nonetheless (Wackodood is the one in the kayak, I was taking pictures from another boat).

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

I just got added to this forum, so I'll dump some of my pictures here:

( Most of these aren't me, as I don't trust my rope buddies with my camera while they're on rope)

Not exactly a portrait, but my next goal to get a portrait at:

...I need a longer rope. :/

Erm, technically this is "steep angle", because it's in the range of 35 to 60 degrees! Pshaw! Noob!

The culmination of 6 months of research, scouting, and training! The reason I got into rope work in the first place: Portland's Big Pipe. Steam, negascout, another friend and I finally did it last night. It was almost a 100 foot drop.

I'll post some video later.

Outstanding! Great photos! I love it when I see folks take their exploration to this level. Training up for "expeditions" like this pay off big time with results like yours. Vertical takes you places that others can't go!

Here's one from the same angle, but shows the scale better.

Here are some of the rigging:

The idea was to put much of the force into compression on that concrete "railing", and still have a solid tensionless anchor around the ladder.

I just randomly found these two old photos from one of my very first ever exploring trips. I was climbing with a harness tied out of rope, and no actual gear other than the rope. I was ascending using a texas system with a Blake's Hitch for my top ascender (which can also be used to descend), and a prusik on the bottom. Also, that wasn't actual climbing rope. It was utility rope from Walmart. Rated for a few thousand pounds, but still...

Wasn't the safest system ever, but it sure was cheap!

Here's some more video from another trip to a Titan missile base: http://www.youtube...atch?v=zT2B5ZmHQ-E

We rappelled down inside the silo again, and this also shows a couple of us on the short ascent for the exit.

Second rope practice last weekend with Se7eN and non-uer member.

Ravenna Park bridge in Seattle.

Rope attached via a scaffold carabiner to one of the steel "X" under the main supports.

Depends how you like your system, but your footloop strap looks a bit long.

Cool beans man! Nice to see that you're trying stuff out!

You can create an ascending tricycle if instead of running the rope straight up to an anchor point, you put a pulley at the anchor point up top, and run the rope over it. Then put a descender on the side with the coil of rope, and have someone tend it while you ascend on the other leg.
That was as you near the top they can let out slack and keep you in the upper 2/3rds - 1/2 of the system; allowing you to continuously ascend.

Leave enough slack on the one end so that you can be lowered back down, then swap the descender to the other side, swap your setup accordingly, and keep at it.

For extra practice, when you get there, you can changeover at the top when you "run out of rope", and descend on your own before you swap the stuff from one side to the other.

cheers.

Nice! Glad to see you're getting into ropework too! Throw some protection up where the rope is near that angle iron, the thought of a tensioned rope rubbing against steel gives me the heebiejeebies.
