Introduce yourself!

Like this:

I'm DJ Craig. I've actually been interested in ropework a lot longer than I've been exploring. I started doing rock climbing about 5 years ago. I also am an aerialist, so I have a lot of knowledge of circus rigging, which has a lot in common with vertical ropework. I love to geek out on the nerdy technical side of this stuff and can talk about gear and techniques for hours. And my favorite locations to explore are any places that give me an excuse to get my climbing gear out!

I'm Tick. I explore abandoned mines, and also do some cave surveying, both of which often involve rope work.

I'm Mindhacker. I started on rocks about 10 years ago, and my love of climbing is what motivates all my favorite explores. My favorite locations are those that pose interesting climbing questions, even if the rest of it is somewhat boring.

That sounds awesome! What exactly do you do? Do you work at a blast furnace?

Wow, that sounds amazing! Active skyscraper construction sites are definitely some of the coolest places I've ever explored!

no exploration pictures, just work pictures but since you like towers i figure i could throw a couple on this post.

in the picture that i am hanging off the ladder to nowhere.... if you look carefully there is a derailed train in the background. one is from top of the mast, little over 600' up.

the bridge is quite advanced now, only 12 cables left to go on each tower. 10 lane wide bridge,

I'm Beens, I've only recently gotten into ropework, mostly from seeing others' reports and pictures, and thinking about the possibilities that will open up. I've done some climbing in the past but had to stop due to a chest injury (which ropework doesn't aggravate, woohoo!). I've been practising ascending and descending an 80ft bridge in town and loving it!

Hey all,

I've been involved in the vertical world for over 30yrs...climbing (ice, rock, altitude, caves, structures, mines, etc...). I am a certtified rope rescue instructor and am an active member of a high angle rescue team. Love playing with ropes.

Howdy,

I'm Therrin, of course.

Started rock climbing at about 13, then went and worked at a place near my house as a high ropes course and rock climbing instructor. Did that for about 10 years with rock climbing in several areas. Did my instructors training course (for training people to be instructors), then did my rescue course.

Started my own tree service business about 7 years ago now. The changeover from rock climbing to vertical access was not a smooth transition for me, I had no teacher and learned all on my own. Would read forums and buy books and learned by trial and inefficiency for a while, before graduating into full SRT and DRT for tree canopy access.
Then also started doing all kinds of other work that I could find using vertical access, as well as doing stuff "for fun" off buildings, bridges, towers and damn near anything else.

Did a couple mines when I was younger, but started doing full blown mine exploring about 6 years ago. Have been down 153 mines in the last 2 years, down to 1300+ ft (vertical distance) underground and have traversed an entire mountain underground through miles of interconnecting mines.

Now I do mineshaft exploration professionally. Have worked with and trained a movie crew, done location scouting, and have worked with law enforcement in several different counties; both training them on mine safety and doing recovery of VIN#'s. Also train beginning mine explorers, and teach vertical access skills and techniques.

Currently working on mixing my love of technical deep diving and wreck diving with my love of mines for mine diving. Have a couple sites I'm looking at. Been taking measurements and getting some new gear, getting familiar with the new gear, now working on building a portable frame to use inside mines for lowering down into flooded verticals with scuba gear.

Um... I suppose that's about it.

Hi I'm Teknical. I'm a caver and I enjoy doing pits in the Virginia and West Virginia area. I've also done some of the BIG DROPS in Mexico. I have a fear of heights (and falling). I'm not sure I will ever get used to it. I enjoy facing my fear and exercising technique and safety. Reading though this thread so far, it looks like we have some real experts in here! I would like to get into mine exploration (horizontal or otherwise).

I did my IRATA course because I saw some window washers in Sydney and thought, "That looks like an urbex thing to do." I was terrified of heights, but I got over it, and now I love my job more than ever!

I've abseiled skyscrapers in Sydney and Melbourne, doing building maintenance. I've worked on iconic places like the Arts Centre Spire in Melbourne and the Kings Cross Coke sign in Sydney. I even got a job setting up the chimpanzee enclosure at Taronga Zoo (Sydney).

Agreed, that's pretty friggin sweet. Do they have SPRAT out there as well?

I almost got with a company that sets up high ropes courses all over the country. Maybe I still should.
