This is awesome! I've done some small rope swings. I'd love to do a big one one day!

The one I did:

You guys missed on much fun this past Sunday. Set up an other 160' swing. cop showed up at the base of the bridge as i was setting up. fortunately he did not know we were up on the iron. 20min went by then he left.

its to be noted, do not forget to grab your accending gear before jumping... its a fucking pain in the ass to MacGiver something to get back up. I did just that on my second jump of the day. Thank god for the extra carabiners i had on my harness...

Can I come explore vancouver with you and your friends? I have sights set on the lion's gate and that swing looks like a lot of fun.

I know rope swings can be fun, but you should try rope jumps (requires dynamic rope). And you can incorparate a rope jump into a swing...you can do this by anchoring your rope to the oppisite side of the bridge you are jumping from. Big drop and huge swing. Its been a while since I set one up and took the ride, but what a rush. If your attached via a grigri and have the remaining rope packed in a leg-bag then it a quick rappel to the bottom.

Always remember to check for full clearance on the drop, swing, and back swing before doing the actual jump. I've seen the results of miss-calculation.

Rio, that video is fucking sick! Loved it. Awesome location for that.

I kinda jumped on your ground person for the one comment... that's the kinda advice you really hope some idiot doesn't read and then go try it with their static rope.

I've seen some vids of people doing this off a huge rock arch in Utah.

Ascending on dynamic rope sucks!
How many jumps will you take on a rope before you retire it? I think most of them are rated for a certain number of falls.

**EDIT**

This is the only video I have of doing anything off a bridge. Did some playing around after a day of teaching vertical access to some folks. I suppose I could set up some fun kind of swing on it! I'll have to see what I can come up with.

Had an interview on Right This Minute a few weeks ago. they broadcasted my video and interview all over the US. im still waiting for a cop to come give me my ticket now . The interview was good, except the one part they edited. instead of me saying i do a lot of rock climbing and i also have lots of rigging experiences from ironworking. It went, i do lots of rock climbing....and i have two ropes.... The magic of editing!

i have seen scary videos online... static lines, if used properly can work for swinging. I would not recommend much slack, if any in the line tho. wrapping your rope around sharp edges (beams, braces..) then tying a granny knot is bloody scary to me.

The ropes i been buying are rated for 14 falls. That is counting on 175 lbs falling 15' straight down. On a 100' swing i should be putting less stress then that on it.( + i am only 140). One rope is sufficient, but i always use two for safety. I do not plan on using the ropes more then 10-12 times. If they still look good and i cant feel anything wrong with the core. Provably could use them more. but I do not really wanna find out how many i can do. my life is worth more then rope. I just cut the ends where i tie my anchor knots which is where the week point is if the rope are going break.

We plan to skim the water eventually. I know of 5-6 bridges that are 200' + high in my general area. I do not bother with anything under 100'.

Ive checked you mine exploration videos. found anyone in the truck?, there is a couple mines i have been thinking of checking out, just need a better vehicle to get to them.

^^ It works better if you put the quote tags at the start AND end of each thing i said...then it wont include your reply in the quote block. =P

Glad to hear you actually pay attention to the fall ratings on the rope and don't just use them over and over and over without paying attention (as I've seen some do).

No bodies in the truck. The case was originally reopened as a theft... but after some additional info and evidence that I brought up, a few parts of the guy's story weren't working and they managed to get him having said something contrary, and then it turned into a fraud investigation. It was a very expensive quad cab full size diesel pickup that was only 2 or 3 years old. Ends up the owner dumped it out there then reported it stolen.

Haha, he didn't count on anyone finding it =)

oh man that video looks like fun.

There's a good bridge about an hour from here, but it's only 20ft from another bridge. Trying to figure out if it's "doable" or if you'd hit the other bridge =P
