Is that Slimjim's voice I hear in the background?

super inefficient and ergonomically awkward climbing system...he wasnt even fully extending his leg...maybe 5/8-3/4 to full extension. Could have easily gained a 6-8 more inches with each step.

What gear pieces is he using on that ascending setup? Typical frog? Is it just not 'tuned' to him yet?

Almost died video. Due to being unable to communicate with eachother, my fellow explorer was tugging like mad on the rope from 150ft above me at the top of the vertical mineshaft, thinking the rope was caught on something. He was pulling me all over the place... I would grab ladder rungs and they'd disintegrate under my grip. I unclipped from it and just stood on a horizontal support beam in the shaft. Big mistake.

The section of video where I'm explaining all this starts at 2:30.

What I learned:
#1 NEVER UNCLIP FROM THE ROPE, even to attempt to smooth matters out while unable to communicate.
I had thought I was at a safe spot, and I wasn't. Until you have hard rock under your feet again, you are in limbo.

#2 Everyone makes a mistake. If it doesn't kill you, make sure you learn from it.

He didn't have his own gear and was using mine, My torso happens to be the perfect size for the webbing loop I use as a chest harness so he couldn't adjust it.

well that makes perfect sense. that's why we "tune" a person's rig to their individual body type/size.
