Question for non-believers: do you, much like the believers you mock, ridicule, and despise, think that the only outcome to satisfy your beliefs is the annihilation of competing beliefs? I don't. I either don't care that much or I realize people hold onto their beliefs or non-beliefs for good reasons and what those reasons are is not my concern.

Back to the point, what is the law in Canada regarding establishment of a religion? Apparently it was a tradition, but it makes one wonder what the outcry would be had it been Korans instead. You gotta wonder about the death threats, though.

Canada has no official religion, however the Preamble to the Charter of Right and Freedoms states "Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law".

This is due to Canada being a constitutional monarchy, and the Queen holds the title "Defender of the Faith" - referring to the church of england.

Much has been read into the above by christians, but the supreme court has ruled consistently for freedom of and from religion. This is a major point for many canadians that want to nationalize the constitution and get rid of the god.

Well the bad guys are clearly the fundy x-tians with their death threats. Although, if you buy into bible inerrancy and the most logical interpretation of the bible, they were entirely justified and the epitome of good x-tians:

Exodus 22:20 He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed.

The gideons are nice folks, but ignorant - and I would prefer that public education be about shining light into the darkness and reducing ignorance - not pushing an intolerant bronze age view of the world.

actually atheism is the absence of belief... and to be honest, if I could have one wish, it would be the completely and total removal, uninstallation, eradication of all religious thought in the world today.
