GM at least made the oil filter easy to remove!

And I guess you never had the pleasure of working on a bread van that had a GM LS1 in it and you removed the wrong bolt that was actually part of the engine mount and your hand almost was crushed....

VW did that with some starters.

He emailed her, said he'd let it go for four grand.

He must of realized his mistake! There was a small fire dept here in Oregon that bought a used 5th stage ambulance with the E350 and the V10 for dirt cheap. Their fuel costs were way more than diesel on that thirsty motor! They ended up actually ripping out the V10 and putting in a Cummins 4BT

He's at 3800 now and I was mistaken, this is an F 350 4x4 crew cab with an 8 foot bed. And I will grant her it seems like a good deal, but the gas, if nothing else just the gas .

Good candidate to drop in a Cummins

A friend of mine had a UHaul truck for a night with the V10, so of course we had to take it out and see what it could do and torture yet another rental vehicle.

That thing couldn't pull the skin off of a rice pudding.

Whats intersting is the story of how the V10 came about. Ford did a customer survey in the 90s to find there was a small segment of bonehead customers who liked the F350 and E350 with the PowerStroke, but wished it was gas instead of diesel. Because Ford was enamored with big engines and SUVs in the 90s, they decided to take their V8 already offered and added two more cylinders, creating the 6.8L V10.

...which, like the gutless 4.6 and 5.4L V8's, lived up to the reputation of not having enough ass to pull a big wheel out of the mud.

Said she just couldn't walk away from the price although she seems to have gotten some of her early details wrong in that it is a 250 extended cab and not a 350 crew cab, but it is a 4x4 Triton V-10 with an 8 ft. bed.

Just over 100,000 miles on the clock all for $3800

That price is pretty hard to refuse. It's cheap enough that an engine swap wouldn't break the bank.

I mentioned that to her her but she's pretty new to the Triton so she wants to give it a go first before committing to an engine swap.

save some money for a transmission rebuild/replacement.

sorry to be a negative fuck. congratulations on your new purchase and I wish all the best.

I just looked at an '06 F350 Crew Cab, super clean with every option. The turn off? It had a 5.4... I guess longevity isn't an issue, but I hear they're pretty gutless.

Ended up with a 2010 Silverado Crew with a 5.3.

Oh no, you're fine
That's the beauty of it, she is my EX-wife, she still consults with me about most if not all of her important decisions, but if there's ever any blowback from a decision it's her new husband that gets to deal with the consequences.

i'm still apologizing for being a dick... kind of having a rough patch lately at work. it's bleeding over into my private life.

i am glad that you and your ex-wife are on speaking terms; more people should be mature enough to be like that.

It wasn't always like that. Three or four really bad years had to go by first.
