This is not my vehicle, but someone on another forum I'm on restored this.

He started with this a bit over 3 years ago:

It had been sitting since 1969.

Once he got it home:

Last August:

In September it won its first car show award.

Some nostalgia with it - it was purchased new by his grandfather's dairy. The most amazing part is he had never done anything more than brake pads or spark plugs before he tackled this - he even painted it himself and did all the welding.

Everyone on the forum was saying he was in over his head, it'll never run, it's too rusty (he did have to rebuild most of the cab from patch panels), don't bother, etc. The only thing they were right about is the engine would never run again; the rest of the driveline is what came with the truck.

There was some restoration guys who were going through Europe in the 90s finding old Willys MB jeeps from WWII in farmers fields, took them and restored them. I would love to to find a Willys MB and restore it...heck I would take that thing on SAR Missions!

in high school, my best friend had a 58 Willys pickup. I had the Super Hurricane Flathead 6 in it, 3 speed manual and about 19 ranges for the transmission and rear end. Top speed was about 45 downhill with a good tailwind, but it would pull a mountain around behind it.

unfortunately, windows got broke in it (this was before the Internet Age when you had 190 Jeep forums to choose from), pieces wore out and he eventually sold it. Out went the flathead, in went a smallblock chevy and an automatic....

It is... I'm all for leaving cars in a barn as opposed to a field where it'll rot out in a year, but yeah. I know of a '58 Deluxe Beetle sitting in the middle of a very sketchy barn, lacking enough floorboards to actually roll the car out. Still trying to figure out a way because, well, it needs to be saved.

you're hogging all the goddamn Beetles!!!!!
every think that maybe us Chevy-driving domestiphiles might want one too?
hmmmmm? every consider that the very first engine I ever rebuilt was an 1800cc that was in the back of my friends 72 El Grande Super Beetle?

(and yes, it was an 1800, out of a bus i believe... had a HUGE Holley 2barrel on it and some obnoxious glasspack exhaust)

How about taking a crushed Corvette prototype and restoring it?

Better yet, how about taking two crushed Corvette prototypes and restoring them?

From the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) archives... here's a shot of the VW display of '52.

That Bus in the centre behind the post? That's THIS one.
