Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

I'm such a nerd, I love this stuff.

These are all pretty informative too:

And if you're really obsessed, this report by the UK Health & Safety Executive where they tested basically every common piece of rope access kit and found some surprising things, like that simple canvas rope protectors did a better job than those big metal caterpillar things, and that no-one should ever use those tape lanyards people sell:

I used to always do that - like always. it was how I was taught, and to be honest, it just felt "safer" than trusting everything to the belay loop, regardless of how strong it actually was.

No more though. Just picked up a Singing Rock Sit Worker harness with a forged aluminum attachment point. Only one place to hook in, and its made from material I actually trust

oh and thanks for those links Loops - the second one in particular was a fascinating read. I printed it out at work and musta read it at least 3-4 times cover to cover. Fascinating stuff and very well put together. I love those kind of reports. got any more??

Another good read for anyone interested is "Considerations for Rope Rescue in 2012" by Kenneth N. Laidlaw. Not much I hadnt read before, but its still a pretty comprehensive document thats updated annually.

I think someone may have posted this before, but this has some great stuff too:

http://www.lifeonaline.com/

It's basically the UK cave rescue manual. The first edition is floating about as free PDFs:

I bought LOAL some years back and have read it a number of times. There is always more good information to get out of it. I hope some of the folks here take time to read through it.

Excellent links!

I have read the book by Laidlaw as well, my mine rescue buddy let me borrow it for a few months. I'd love to buy a copy of it.

Just downloaded all those pdf's to browse through. The perfect nighttime reading material for me =)
