I need to buy a new torque wrench, at first I was set on Snap-On but then I saw these ones on Amazon, made by CDI, for less than half the price. It says they come with the same certificate of calibration as the SO and since CDI is owned by Snap On I'm guessing they are more or less the same wrench. I was wondering if anyone on here has ever used one, If I buy the CDI will I ridiculed by everyone else in the shop for it? is it a waste of money? do they have a good reputation?

I wouldn't be worried about ridicule, I would be worried about incorrectly torquing something critical. But, if you're working on US-made cars I suppose it doesn't matter anyway?

Seriously, I think a torque wrench is one of those things you should make as best as possible? If I was still torquing for pay, there'd be a Stahlwille or Dowidat in my box. If not, a Spat-On. Neko.

torquing sequence was very important when we were putting my Monte Carlo's 3100 V6 back together.

I've never heard of CDI- as someone in the trade, I'd say stick with a Snap-On or Stahlwille, the latter of the two might be hard to find.

A torque wrench is just something you don't cheap out on- if you buy ONE overpriced tool, make sure this is it.

CDI is a subsidiary of Snap On, they actually made Snap On wrenches until Snap On bought the company so now Snap On makes CDI wrenches. the CDI wrenches are pretty much identical to Snap On except for the ratchet head which is a little larger on the CDI model. they have the same certification as well, having a current calibration and certification is mandatory in my line of business, I don't work in an auto shop. After reading the reviews I think I'm going to get them, they were all really good.

I do aircraft maintenance for a living. We have both CDI and Snap on at work. They get beat and thrown around quite a bit at work day after day, and yet they stay calibrated and accurate (they are sent for cal every 6 months). Do it up.
