So, I finally ran the bug down the strip....26 times today after driving 2 and a half hours to the event. I also had no issues, and made it home just fine.

Never drag raced before, I now am addicted.

Hey yeah you, fat ass. Not interested.

to me, drag racing is a mindgame.
when i am at the line, the other car isn't even there. it's just me, my car and the tree. What's funny is that the windows are up, the radio is on low and all i can hear is my heart beating... and my attention is riveted to the tree. YELLOW-YELLOW-YELLOW! Out goes the clutch, foot down on the gas, car starting to squat as torque translates to motion, GREEN!!!!!! First gear. Bang. Second gear. There goes the first 60feet, the place where most races are won or lost. Hold on to second gear to just shy of the redline. Bang. Smash the shifter through the gate into third. Forward motion is really starting become a blur. I'm only vaguely aware of the other car next to me, or ahead of me, or behind me... at this point, its me and my car. You fly past half track, knowing that you've won or lost, but still enjoying the ride as you wind out your engine.

The denoumet is that slap back into fourth gear. The end of the track is coming closer, the runoff shorter than it looks from the staging lanes. Half the time, i am never paying attention crossing the line at my time/speed... It's like a post-orgasmic feel... Almost like I need a cigarette. Taking the ticket, especially if you're the winner, is the minor reward, the drive back to the staging area the victory lap. Even as you shut the engine down, you're already back at the line thinking about your next pass. It's more than a drug. You can quit a drug. Drag racing, as simple as it is, is almost the purest motorsports high there is. Sure rally and rallycross are faster and crazier, but drag racing is the serial killer, the quiet mania, the voice in the back of your head that is always saying, 'how can we make this car faster in the straight line?'

that about sum it up?
