someone tell me how I should do it if I am going to do it on my own, or give me an idea of how much it will cost to have it cleaned professionally....

I'll post a few flix for an example of what I'm talking about

1.

2.

see the dark black spot at high center right? I can almost guarantee that its bunker dust from going underground, now the question is is it on the lens or the insides of the camera?

That would be dust on your sensor. Obtain a rocket blower and/or a FINE-haired brush to clean it off, it's an easy process and does not necessarily have to be done professionally. Set your camera to whatever mirror lock-up/cleaning function it has to access the sensor.

If you're referring to canned air (keyboard/electronic duster), I wouldn't recommend it. If any of the liquid sprays out and finds itself on the sensor, you'll more than likely damage it.

You can pick up a rocket blower at any camera store.

Ah! I have never seen one of those before, this will give me a good excuse to head out to the camera store. I know nothing about cameras but the little black speck was starting to bother me since it was showing up in every picture the last month or so. Thanks Lord Vadder for the other thread, I don't want to even try the Q-tip method...

Worst case you leave more cotton fibers behind than the dust you remove. Sometimes it's the only way. I use just plain tap water, get it moist, wipe the dust down to the edge of the aliasing filter then go along the edge with a slight swirl upward to catch any of the stray fibers.

Since I sold my used glass and haven't had any problems with dust. I swear it was the circa 1992 EF 70-210mm that was blowing it back in. The 7D is still very clean.

so that rocket blower worked to a certain point. I can still see a small fragment of debris in the same spot but for the most part it is gone. I'm hoping to take the camera out tomorrow to give it a little test and see how the photos upload on the computer.

edit: tested it by taking a picture of a white wall and then scanning the screen side to side and up to down looking for dirt.

Stop down to minimum aperture (f/18, f/22, f/36, etc) and overexpose by at least two stops.
